Blair stood down at a time of his choosing as well, although I think there was pressure from Brown to hand over the reigns.

Didn't Brown pretty much Yosser Hughes him until Blair stepped aside?

Well, they are meant to have had an agreement that Brown would support Blair in the leadership contest after John Smith died, but that Blair would then step aside at a to be determined date, and support Brown's bid to be leader.
