  • Bloody hell!

  • Oh, they mad.

  • Thought we'd give KatKin a go so got the two week trail. May is enjoying it after months of just Whiskas, but do wonder if the portion sizes for her are just a tad too large as she has a bit then returns to it at various points in the day...

  • one of our cats caught a fledgling robin. i'm a bit distraught.

i realise that i have to accept this as being a consequence of having cats that are allowed out. it's still upsetting.

they are not generally big hunters and we don't have a cat flap so mostly they are indoors, and mostly they catch mice when they catch anything.

it's all very irrational on my part.

  • Sure...

  • What a lert!

  • I tested +ve for Covid on Monday of this week, and have been in bed since then. Mostly sleeping, and when not sleeping, I've been watching the clouds I can see through my bedroom window whilst lying in bed, checking out the animal shapes I can see in them. And when not doing that, I've being looking at this thread. All three have had a restorative effect on me. Sadly, I've worked my way through this entire thread but am, as yet, not well enough to re-enter normal circulation. So I guess, for now, it'll have to be just sleep and clouds.
I haven't properly owned cats for about 30 years, but the last time I did, we had three. Bill, Ben and Little Weed. Three kittens which arrived over the space of one weekend from three different pet shops, but they grew up sleeping, scrapping and playing as brothers. All three in varying amounts of black/white. Billy, also known as The Prince of Darkness, was the blackest cat you've ever seen. He was like a cat-shaped black hole, absorbing the light from his surroundings.
More recently, I have been adopted by a local cat. I call her Part-Time cos she only turns up between October and April, when the CH is on. She stretches out on the Linoleum in the kitchen, where the CH pipes run under the floor. She was tiny when she first turned up. I was experiencing a rat issue in the garden at the time so, I thought, 'You can stay'. I've never fed her - she never looked like she needed feeding. I never touch her, because as soon as I do, my eyes start itching and streaming. I've not had this with any other cat. She'll jump up on the window sill of my studio and miaow 'Oi! Lemmee in. It's f-f-freezing out here'. So I do.
This is what Part-Time looks like:

  • Does anyone fancy some frozen, chicken Katkin food? We thought we'd try it but Blue won't touch it. We've got 6 packets so 3 days worth of food for our bigger boy. Might be a good way to test it out before committing to buying a full pack like we did!

  • where's collection from? Wouldn't mind giving something else a try atm

  • We're two and a bit weeks into Katkin trials and the results are...incredibly varied. Initially May seemed to like Cluck and Moo, won't touch Quack and is indifferent to Gobble. The portion sizes they've initially given us are, in my opinion, far too big, so we halved it down to about 45g for morning and afternoon, much like what we've done on Whiskas; she'll make a go at whatever in the morning but after that shows no interest in going back for it unless we mix with some Whiskas, and even then she seems to have this incredibly skill of seperating the Whiskas from Katkin. Putting a little hot water in and the chicken sprinkles don't do much either...

Obviously results will vary, but from my own experiences I certainly wouldn't be paying full whack - paid £20 odd for two weeks and my other half got a free referral

  • SE20 or could meet on my commute to/from E20 next week some time. It's meant to be decent stuff but my boy basically refuses to touch anything with any nutritional value.

  • ah, that's a bit far east for me to travel for cat food. thank you though

  • No worries!

  • Any tips for keeping cats cool in this weather? Gets awfully hot in our flat at this point where it's a bit uncomfortable for May - so far it's the usual windows being open, fans on, ice in her water, ice block in a tea towel (she doesn't seem keen sitting on it) and frozen lick e lix as a treat...

  • I tried big trays of water next to the draught from the lower sections of open sash windows. Don't know if it works. No good at science.

  • Fan blowing across a bowl of ice cubes is suppose to be effective according to the Beeb.

  • Coloured matched cat and slippers

  • Guess like humans cats have different thermostats. Jam used to cook himself on radiator covers in a flat we stayed in.

  • Both of mine love to drink from the bath tap
