  • I'd love to know what my rabidly Tory old neighbour makes of all this. That would mean I'd have to talk to her though and I really don't want to do that.

  • I live on a small cul-de-sac, and for a change am looking forward to the road management meeting next month with the 4 other retired homeowners, one of whom is a retired Tory councillor.

I shall be grinning from ear to ear.

  • I also live on a quiet cul-de-sac. One of my neighbours is the current Tory mayor of the borough (hello gold club bar thread). He's actually a pretty decent guy on a day to day basis, although he did blank me when I went to vote in the May local elections and he was standing outside the polling station. Looks like our constituency will stay blue at the moment, but I'm loving the bigger picture.

  • This particular neighbour once invited the other owners (4 maisonettes) to an election night dinner (possibly the last but one) and blithely assumed we were all also tories by virtue of the fact we live in a tory borough. I mean, I work in fin services regulatory advice so I get it for me but the lesbian couple who are both ex-social workers... seems like a leap. In any case, she has always been alarmingly out of touch and seemed to embrace a casual nastiness, not to mention treating the rest of us like employees when anything needed doing around the place. We generally tolerate her but she's stepped over the line with my wife (who has zero tolerance for b*llsh*t) a few times and been told her fortune, as my Dad would say.
