Any recommendations for a modern, disc brake, mid depth wheelset that are relatively light, relatively durable to put on a potential nice summer bike wheelset? I'd like proper hooked rims, as I'm not convinced hookless is a good solution for consumers. Somewhere between 25 and 40mm rim dept would be great - I'm not looking for aero gainz, and would rather avoid instability in cross winds as it can be windy round here.
Currently looking at lightbicycle AR36 with DT Swiss 240 hubs and CX Rays, around £950 delivered for a full wheelset, and estimated weight of 1370g. Struggling to find much around that price point that comes close, without going to a much narrower rim, adding a chunk of weight, or changing to a cheaper hub that I don't think will be as durable as DT Swiss.

best thing you can do imo is have a chat with @broken_777
Edit: meant to reply to @hazzelfrazzel

Ah, checking post history, I see he has a website for his wheel building business. Contact made on there - thank you!

I'd change to a cheaper hub which would be exactly as durable as DT Swiss - 350 6-bolt. The extra weight is a price worth paying unless you're entering a weight weenie contest or vying for the podium in hill climbs.

Fair point! Yes, that would save over 100 quid. And you'd do 6 bolt rather than centre lock? I have no real preference, but lots of places seem to want to sell centre lock.

In their interest, not yours.

I wouldn't, but I travel with my wheels (and, in case your were wondering, also the rest of the bike) a fair bit and removing CL rotors to make bikes easier to fit into boxes is tres bon.

I'd suggest considering the Bitex 312 hubs. Essentially the same weight as the 240s, a fair chunk cheaper and I've found them to be durable on the wheels I've got. They've got decent-sized bearings, and once you've got decent-sized bearings there's not really a whole heap to go wrong on a pair of hubs provided they don't explodinate. I've got a pair on the wheels on my Lynskey, and they're going strong after a fair few miles, including a week in the Dolomites and a week in the Alps last year.

Someone just posted on the deal thread
£479 for Lightweight Carbon Road CL DISC Climbing Wheelset | Tubeless | 1344g

Thank you, I did spot that, but sadly I weigh around 75kg these days, so think I'd be better off with an option that has more spokes on the front!

It's UK's shit roads and shit weather that's likely to do the most damage. Your wheels probably stretched out and thought "this is the life" when they were over there.

You would hope wheels would survive 2 weeks of riding.

I dunno, have you seen Hill Climbing? You only care about being able to get the bike up and down the hill a couple of times - anything else is excess :D

Looking for a set of rim brake wheels that are wide (20+mm internal) and shallow (less than 30mm deep). Does such a thing exist?

Yes that's not that special, like Pacenti Forza

Perfect!

What would you choose for rim brake carbon clinchers for 105 11sp? Fulcrum wind 40C caught my eye. 17C rims still seem ok for my unfashionable 23-25mm tyres? 1.5kg bit heavy? Not looking to go tubeless. Give me another decade to catch up with the cool kids.
Are they the same as what Merlin are calling the 400C for £899?

Light Bicycle would get my vote, particularly if you can hold on until Black Friday and get a decent price drop. Or eBay and keep an eye on Tri Sport Resort/Chicken Cycles/Paul Milne's, normally some NOS wheels floating about.

In general, Fulcrum "hundreds" series are the OEM version. Every one I've looked at has been identical to the corresponding aftermarket wheel apart from the decals.

I have a pair of completely new LB AR375 rims, UD layup, graphene brake surface, 20/24h going spare if any good for you/interest in building or having something build.

I'm super happy with my Caden rim brake tubulars (1080g / 49mm).
Check out their range of clinchers; they're mostly under 1.4kg and 900 quid: https://carbonbikewheels.com.au/en
I've got the spendier Decadence option with straight pull hubs and CX-Rays.

Just got this, and would like to eventually upgrade the wheels to something nicer / stronger.
They're labelled Genesis Sr24. Apparently this is the spec:
Rims: Jalco SR240D / 32h
Hubs: Joytech D341RCC/D342RCC 32h / front / rear / 6-bolt
Spokes: Steel 14gNeed QR hubs, rims suitable for 35 or 38mm tyres, and for a fat guy of about 100kg + some panniers (maybe 15-20kg max). Bike weighs about 13kg in the XL size, complete with the wheels above.
Would this be a nice set-up? Or not strong enough for my weight + bags? I know nothing about tubeless, but I guess these rims can be used with or without tubes.
HED Belgium G, 700c, 32h
DT Swiss Alpine III spokes
Hope Pro 5 Centrelock hubs, 32hOther suggestions welcome. There’s also these, which would be much cheaper, but they only have 24 spokes:

Also related: Shimano XT MT800 rotors, on centrelock hubs, should fit fine with the calipers and frame, assuming they're the same 160mm as the current rotors?
