Well yes Wharton, Mainoo and arguably Gallagher have a more defensive capacity but none of them have the creativity or ability to use it like Trent does.
Englands biggest strength is the front four. Without the ball they are a waste of a shirt however as seen second half. So unless one of the aforementioned players develops an ability to find Saka like Trent did frequently you have to lose that cover to gain the actual strength of your squad.
Pickford going long won’t win this thing.

The other midfielders. Gallagher, Mainoo and Wharton can’t find passes like TAA can.
So you either have midfielders who can’t do what he can do or you have someone who can make things happen.
