Is there a risk that cramming into a too small tent doesn’t sell the camping dream very well?
Something like the terra nova laser compact 2 would be my recommendation tbh, still fairly competitive vs one-person tents weight -wise. I would imagine it to be pretty cost for two people

Two in a one person tent is basically a non starter. Most one person tents MIGHT have 2" of spare floor space beyond a 25" wide sleeping pad - which is considered a 'wide' pad as it is. You need a two person at a minimum. I'd buy a 2P X-Mid and be done with it. The space gained versus a small increase in weight is more than worth it.

yeah i guess im trying to cover too many bases; bikepacking, solo camping, couples camping. Can’t cover it all with my different preferences for each

A superlight 2P tent covers all those unless you're a real gram counter - the X-mid JB recommended is something like 1.2kg with poles.

Welllllll I currently use an Outdoor Research Helium bivvy for bike packing that’s like 450g and packs up very small, though what it has in size and weight is a bit let down by comfort

I'm off to a festival in Spain, camping for a week. Forcast is daytime temps mid 30's nights 16-20. Do I need to take a sleeping bag if it that warm, will a tent, light blanket do?
Is it madness not to or smart weight space saving saving. I do have a lightweight Bivi Bag.

Must try a bivy... that's a seriously light set up, it's lighter and smaller than my sleeping mat

What’s the deal with the door leak that everyone complains about in the reviews?

roomy enough to stretch to 2 people on the few times my girlfriend wants to join?
Got a Big Agnes Copper Spur bikepacking UL2 with this in mind, used for a few years as a luxury 1 person tent and is now a pretty decent 2 person.
It's great because it fits easily between narrow drop handlebars.
Downside is price, probably just at <£10 per night by now 🥲

I also have a Terra Nova Laser Compact 2 and it does great for me (5'7") and just about fits me and partner (6'1"). Would recommend overall.

A cracking little 2P backpacking tent on Prime Day. 2.5kg so not super light, but it's essentially a 3FL UL gear Tajii II with polyester fly instead of Silnylon for £62 (with voucher applied at checkout)

Anyone know about campsites in the Netherlands? What are they like? Are they expensive? Easy to find?
-
• #441
There's a great one in Amsterdam, been there many times (twice this year)

Was going to say 32 euros a bit dear then I realised it is practically in the centre of Amsterdam. Is it very busy? The tents in the picture seem packed in.

It can get busy Thursday to Sunday but it's usually fine. They open up another field during the high season. Lots of bike packers/cycle tourists. Very friendly, never had any issues at all and have been going for 12-13 years....
It's 10 mins by bus and Metro from Central Amsterdam, but it's very secluded and quiet at the campsite. Great amenities. Very clean showers and toilets, outside covered cooking area with gas hobs, fridges and drinking water

Been reading this thread for a few weeks in prep for a bit of wild camping on the southwest coast path so thanks for the advice contained above!
Overall very successful, my planned sleep spot had been taken by someone else, but found another epic spot a few km further on, having practiced outing tent up and down a couple of times was handy, there wasn’t much I didn’t use (other than waterproofs…yay!) and the only thing I would have liked was something to wash up with so I could have had a second cup of coffee after this mornings porridge!
Went with my senior citizen dog, we didn’t love the styles as she can’t manage those any more so I had to carry her over, but otherwise a perfect trip!

Ah damn you're right
trueeee, we are not big people mind, it’s the classic case of wanting her to get into camping, I only have a silly ultralight bivvy, but worried buying a 2 man tent will be wasted if she doesn’t actually want to go out that much
