Thanks - easy up and down? Mainly thinking once it's been unfurled it actually goes back into the bag?

easy up and down…
Ridiculously so, I was mildly sceptical when air tents first started appearing but they’re foolproof. As with all tents there’s an art to the decamp but after a couple of times you’ll wonder why you didn’t switch sooner.

The only consideration with air tents is the bulk and weight.
Having 3 to 6 great big plastic inner tubes considerably increases pack size and weight. -
• #405
Yep, will only be used for car trips (not ideal i know) and will keep my terra nova laser compact 2 for foot/bike stuff up on dartmoor.
-
• #406
Oh yeah, car for sure. As soon as I hear family involvement I presumed we were talking type 2 camping!
Also a terra nova fan for solo stuff 🤛 -

Poles strapped to top tube, fabric rolled up in a pocket. Dream tent.

Do cycle-campers take a chair?
-
• #409
I'm going to say no. There are some things I'll pay the price of extra weight/faff like a heavier sleeping mat but a chair, nah.
All subjective right enough. If you dont live on the West Coast of Scotland where outside tent time is limited to mauling by midges then I imagine it's quite a nice thing to sit in a chair for awhile after a long day.

I've taken one of the things you use to make a chair out a sleeping mat, well worth it imo, but I find floor sitting very uncomfortable generally
-
• #411
I've got one of those. Perhaps I could make one which converts into a Thermarest-style camp bed. But very light...cf struts and Dyneema

Any suggestions for tents with standing room?
-
• #413
Lightweight or car camping? If car camping I don’t think you can beat a classic canvas bell tent; heavy, pain to put up but exceedingly luxurious and spacious. Borrowed/used a few but can’t remember specific brands I’m afraid.
I noticed Alpkit have one. No personal experience of this but other Alpkit stuff I have is decent enough https://alpkit.com/products/roundhouse

I have to disagree.
Bell tents are an absolute nonsense.
Hideously heavy
Terrible waterproofing.
Bright as fuck and hot AF as soon as dawn breaks.
Only space for one person to stand up at a time, and when you stand up you are fighting with a pole.If car camping I would go for a Coleman weathermaster 4

pain to put up
On the contrary. Simply peg out the base, put Central pole in, then door a-frame shaper, then peg out guys = a doddle. So much easier than the other tents we'd had
Yes it in hot in sunshine @user16171 so the zip out base/sides is useful albeit pricier. Our is roomy enough to stand in without wirry of being near the pole, I'm 6ft2 btw. No leaks to date either.
It is heavy but no bother when car camping, drying out once home is an issue if rainy pack down day as we don't have a big space to do that in.

Fair re set up, maybe just comparing it to my usual ultralight options which are walking poles or maybe a single hooped pole which set up in minutes.
Agree it’s no worse than any other big multi person/multi compartment poled tent

You're all wrong. The De Waard Albatross is the best tent going for family car (big car/van) camping.
Maybe a bit light in the morning, but will withstand anything the weather throws at it, and in relative silence. Doesn't get hot and is just a lovely place to be whatever time of day or night.
It weighs a ton and you have to learn how to put it up, but at least three other families in our social circle have invested since we got ours. Loads of room to stand up inside.
We've just bought our second as we wanted the massive awning (a variolufel no less) out the front. I'll have our old one for sale shortly.

Can anyone recommend a cheap inflatable sleeping mat? Must pack down small. My girlfriend wants to pick one up, but doesn't want to spend a lot. Anything < £30?

Lookout for crivit ones at middle of lidl (if no rush), else alpkit usually a good starting point.

Alpkit Cloud base on ebay right now.

Also a fan of bell/tipi style tents. Our tentipi has been great over the years.

What are my options pitching a DD Hammocks 3x3 m tarp between two tents using no walking poles and possibly no trees?
Ideally I'd want an inch or two between the top of the tents and the tarp for airflow, but at the moment all I can think of is the tarp would be laying over the tents and pegged down at the back of both 🤔

We got these from Tesco a couple of weeks ago for £15 each
(can't find on their site for some reason but was in the Tesco Extra in Surrey Quays)

Didn't think they'd be all that but are a real bargain!
Pack really small and are light too - I'm a fussy sleeper and it was fine
The regular size is really long too about 190cm -

Any recommendations for lightweight 1 person tents that are just about roomy enough to stretch to 2 people on the few times my girlfriend wants to join?
-
• #425
given that most 2 person tents are really 1.5 person, I wouldn't bother looking at anything claiming to be 1 person
We’ve got a Berghaus air and it’s brilliant, it’s on the pricier side but performed flawlessly for the last three years.
I’m pretty sure the one you’ve linked to comes with the blackout liner as standard now.
