  • It was very straightforward, I unpicked the existing stitching with a stitch unpicker. Then added the new straps with a speedy stitcher.

I used very fancy but very satisfying Fidlock buckles.

  • Domo arigato.

  • Useful set up for a few days touring. Super C saddle bag with bagman support and struts. The struts allowed the tent to sit in the space behind the saddle.

  • Very neat

  • This is lovely! What handlebars, can I ask?

  • The bars are from an 80s Dawes Galaxy. They have 'Handmade in England' on them and seem to be based on old randonneur bars with the slight upward flare.

  • @veLLo

I saw your photo of that plastic stiffener thing all bent outwards. I had the same with some bags (Large/rear Super Cs I think it was). My feeling was that they were shaped like that with some excess near the bottom in an attempt to make them stand up when put on the floor, perhaps? The plastic flap always felt had an inch too long, and were getting tangled in rack/mech cabling/ whatever. So I sliced off a strip with a sharp knife. I haven't missed that excess plastic so far.

  • Thanks, I may shorten them too.
I'm not sure they're meant to be shaped like this to keep the panniers upright, I've got the problem on the large rear panniers, which I had second hand and came like this, but my front ones I bought new and these came flat (and have more or less remained flat).
Will report if I attempt heat to flatten (as well as shortening as you suggested)

  • has anyone ever shortened a bagman?

  • As in cut the support a bit shorter? Should be ok as long as you leave enough to still be clamped in the main bit.

  • Any interest in a super C audax? The dowel snapped so I put in a replacement. The ends started to split so I just cable tied them together and it's been fine. Dowel is cheap anyway. It's also missing the drawstring for the inner closure
    £30?

What a classic bikepacking kit you've got there!

  • Just stumbled on this thread and it reminded me of the articles by Henry Kingman in the Rivendell reader.
