  • there isn't a space for one anywhere else

Are you sure? Is there no bit of wall to fit an electric one?

  • Literally units the whole way round. It's a galley kitchen

  • Does anyone know of a kettle that’s quick boil for large amounts for cooking etc but also able to do one cup of tea? We had some random cheapo Amazon jobbie for ten years which was perfect but it’s been discontinued. Got a new one but it goes crazy with less than 500ml, and then dribbles everywhere when you pour.

  • Get rid of that lump and you'll have plenty of space for £6.99 fan heater from Argos?

  • Dualit. 2 litre capacity. 2 cup minimum.

  • This is a really interesting idea. The place we are buying has an oil fired aga that we want to replace and turning it into a barbecue isn't a bad idea if it could be done...

Despite my other half being a veggie...

  • Yeah it's all integrated quite nicely as well.

Take the Aga out, replace the hole with a nice butcher block style table that matches the farm style kitchen, and you'll have space for an electric oil filled rad underneath and adds useful countertop and storage.

  • It depends on the age of the pan. They emailed me when I replaced mine to say that the lifetime warranty on the 3 ply stainless range was introduced in 2012, prior to that it had a 10 year guarantee. Not sure about the toughened non stick range and their warranty duration.

They usually ask for a photo of the bottom, so that they get a serial number.
Proof of purchase would be helpful, but considering Le Creuset is a commonly gifted item, I don't know how many people keep a proof of purchase or proof gift receipt.

I suppose the crap thing is that I've ended up having to warranty a fair few le creuset pans.
-24cm stainless saute - warped base
-Marmitout cast iron frying pan - flaky non stick

    • 36cm cast iron wok -snapped handle
    • Toughened non stick deep frying pan - degraded non stick
-20cm stainless non stick chef pan - lifting non stick
-14cm stainless milk pan - lifting non stick.

All replaced with no issues, all 'as a gesture of goodwill'

  • ^ my folks have these. They work really well.

  • Sounds like you are recreating the solid fuel version of the aga - they were / are a thing

  • From a quick look on ebay 2nd hand they only fetch a couple of hundred quid - and I bet they're slow to sell. Can you even get a middle-isle kamado for that money? Funny because I remember them being a status item as a kid and thinking how ridiculous it was having a cooker you had to turn off for part of the year.

Enamelled cast iron should be fairly durable outdoors. Although I wonder if you'd have any issues getting it up to temp?

My thinking was something along the lines of those smokers people were into a while back.

  • I'm more likely to just scrap it and get in a full brand new bbq tbh. The effort probably outweighs the reward.

  • Just been nosing around on the interwebs. The energy consumption of a conventional oven and hob is 2.6% of that of an Aga. Which was an eye-opener.

  • Wow. That's nuts.

Obviously I expected a big difference, but that is a lot.

  • Out of interest, do you know how that was calculated? Obviously that's crazy regardless but is that over the course of a year with the aga being left on for half of it or just over the period of time that a regular oven would be used?

  • Dunno. I found it on Wikipedia.
ETA the consumption stats are pretty outrageous.
In a week an Aga will consume as much gas as a conventional cooker would in 9 months.

  • Another recommendation for this one. And, very quiet if you keep it clean.

  • We found that having an AGA pushed us to cook differently, at least for the winter. We tended to oven cook as much as possible coz it's hot already.

However, when we moved and redid the kitchen we didn't put one in... 🙄

  • Was just about to say the same thing.

Plumbed-in hydronic fan-assisted plinth heaters, job done.

  • I've got a Dualit. The space shuttle taking off is quieter. Aside from that it's quieter.

  • Thanks for this 👍

  • :-)
I'm never in the room when it goes off.

  • Hob based kettles. As little as half a cup and boils quickly on the power boost setting
