I’ll ask the nice chap in Roue Libre if he can recommend a place when I collect the bike later.

Collected the bike yesterday, going to use a place in Argentiere la-bessee to wash all the sand off this morning

You can't put a price on invaluable information about putting things in bags and cycling about with them.

164 pages. That's only 5 Euro cents per page. Bargain.

Argentiere la-bessee
This can only be pronounced in Yorkshire or Essex.

An amazing thread! I envy anyone who can let the taps of their savings open and enjoy the spillage more than the pain of the depletion. I've got a couple of 986 Boxsters and I'm desperately trying to spend as little as possible, even though I'd love to do exactly the opposite.

This thread is giving me massive being in Southern France envy.
Years ago we had a few holidays in Provence; not been for 20 years or so now. I'd like to go back and check out some of the other places too.

It’s not a pleasant feeling, but when will I get this chance again? With that said I’m trying to be as frugal as possible.

It’s very beautiful here, you would enjoy it if you could find the time.
My thoughts on Briancon is that it’s nice but it feels a bit rundown - in the town itself, the scenery around it is incredible.
Argentifère la-bessee felt much more cared for, had a lovely little square and it’s also surrounded by mountains, has a train station that is one stop from Briancon and generally feels like it would be nicer to stay in.
I head to Morzine on Saturday, there until the 22nd, and I see from Instagram that Morgins reopens that day so might head in that direction for a few days before heading back to the Hautes-Alpes to visit Les Deux Alpes, Alpe D’Huez and so on.
Any and all suggestions welcomed.

thanks - yes, i will make time sometime soon. probably going to move house next year which should free up cash and hopefully time as well.
was just thinking, first time we drove down we had a life expired Fiat Tipo which belonged to my mum's boyfriend, and it made it there and back. The second time we had a Ford Mondeo which I owned at the time, the third time I borrowed a Subaru Outback. One time we got the TGV to Avignon - that was the time I wrote off the Citroen belonging to the parents of the people we were staying with...
all these trips were memorable for different reasons.

Tomorrow’s challenge is: where can I park with my Raaw Madonna on the roof, in Turin, where the bike will still be on the roof when I come back?
-

I live in Turin and i don't think such a place exists. The best bet is to leave your car inside a surveilled garage or leave only the bike at the giant private bike parking near the Porta Nuova station, recollecting it when you're ready to go away. I would have loved to help you but i'm not here this weekend

Ah, good info. The Thule rack has a cable lock built into it- but I trust that to stop people grabbing the bike at petrol stations, not to defeat a determined bike thief.
Could you recommend somewhere outside Turin and handy for the airport where I could get some lunch whilst keeping the car+bike in view?

If you're ok with some quality Ice Cream, i suggest you to check out this place:
They have a giant farmhouse and it's very quiet. I've been there a month ago!
Unfortunately, the northernmost part of the city is quite a desolate landscape, so i can't suggest you many other places. If you happen to go through Venaria Reale, this place is also very nice (and since it's a pedestrial area you can take your bike there and eat outside, or park in the spot nearby):

Sad to hear you’re going through Venaria Reale. Nothing to be ashamed of and the treatments are readily available.

Would agree. We rented a chalet out past the Intermarche/Casino/whatever it is now and had outdoor space and a BBQ so other than shopping, going thru on rides we didn't really bother with Briancon itself.
Could also stay in Cesana Torinese over the Italian side; that seemed nice when I was there for a night.

I shall head for Veneria Reale today- sadly it’s hosing it down with rain in Briancon but I’m hopeful that it will ease as we come out of the mountains
