It’s very beautiful here, you would enjoy it if you could find the time.
My thoughts on Briancon is that it’s nice but it feels a bit rundown - in the town itself, the scenery around it is incredible.
Argentifère la-bessee felt much more cared for, had a lovely little square and it’s also surrounded by mountains, has a train station that is one stop from Briancon and generally feels like it would be nicer to stay in.
I head to Morzine on Saturday, there until the 22nd, and I see from Instagram that Morgins reopens that day so might head in that direction for a few days before heading back to the Hautes-Alpes to visit Les Deux Alpes, Alpe D’Huez and so on.
Any and all suggestions welcomed.

thanks - yes, i will make time sometime soon. probably going to move house next year which should free up cash and hopefully time as well.
was just thinking, first time we drove down we had a life expired Fiat Tipo which belonged to my mum's boyfriend, and it made it there and back. The second time we had a Ford Mondeo which I owned at the time, the third time I borrowed a Subaru Outback. One time we got the TGV to Avignon - that was the time I wrote off the Citroen belonging to the parents of the people we were staying with...
all these trips were memorable for different reasons.

Would agree. We rented a chalet out past the Intermarche/Casino/whatever it is now and had outdoor space and a BBQ so other than shopping, going thru on rides we didn't really bother with Briancon itself.
Could also stay in Cesana Torinese over the Italian side; that seemed nice when I was there for a night.
This thread is giving me massive being in Southern France envy.
Years ago we had a few holidays in Provence; not been for 20 years or so now. I'd like to go back and check out some of the other places too.
