  • adaptive cruise is nice. not sure I'd want non A CC now.

  • My 996 has cruise, which I’m a fan of as it’s an actual motor that pulls a cable which in turn pulls the throttle pedal down, which then actuates the throttle butterfly in the normal manner - super old school.

But part of it’s charm is it’s simplicity - if I was in the market for a modern car I’d have auto/adaptive everything, because why buy something made in 2020+ which has the appurtenances of one made in 1998?

  • Auto lights are great. Old school CC is good abroad, but not as useful in the UK.

For core options personally think you want:

    Leather steering wheel
    ACC
    Climate control
    Auto lights
    Fancy lights
    Fancy hifi*

*as in whatever the oem upgrade package is called in a particular model

  • None of it is necessary but cruise and auto lights are nice to have, ACC is bloody brilliant if you have it, auto wipers on that gen Skoda work great, never had a problem with mine on my Superb.

  • DSG available on Skoda's? Awesome on VW's

  • I have auto lights and wipers on my Mk3 Octavia VRS (2013) but no CC, oddly. But I've never had a car with CC so it's not something I miss.

  • What is this magic that auto lights provide that everyone like so much???

    Gets dark: switch on lights
    Gets light: switch them off

  • That seems like great value for money plus a seller who's an enthusiast. I'm a little tempted to feed the mid-life crisis.

  • What is this magic that auto lights provide that everyone like so much???

It's more a case of dark magic when you switch from a car that has them to one that doesn't and you forget to put them on manually

  • I love all that magic stuff in the mini bus. Adaptive CC, gap keeper, lane assist, auto lights, wipers, reverse cameras, parking sensors with auto stop, auto gearbox and speed cap. Hell it even puts the seat into the correct position, changes the radio and sets the mirrors for you when you pair your phone. There’s a little light that flashes on the mirror to let you know if something is coming along side. I used to hate it all, but as you can’t turn it off I’ve learned to embrace it all. Shit just remembered it even brakes for you if you are come into a roundabout too hot.
Our golf has auto lights, wiper a cc, but the best toys are the lights come on when you unlock it or get out so we don’t need an outside light any longer. And you can also open or close the windows on the key fob I’m forever leaving the back windows open.

  • But environment light isn't like that is it?

Bitd, how many people have driven at dusk or even at night in a well lit city like London without remembering to turn their lights on?

I definitely have. And I'd probably flash someone at lead 1-in-5 journeys to prompt them to put their lights on.

  • I just want to switch my fucking lights on when I want them switched on. And my wipers to wipe when I tell them to, not when they feel like it.

I had a hire car once that auto-braked on me, I nearly went through the fucking windscreen. I thought the suspension had failed.

I'm clearly in a minority of one on this thread though :)

  • nah i get it. I do like CC, but on holiday in the states once we hired a car that had lane control or something. that was genuinely horrible, but luckily easy to turn off.

  • For balance I also enjoy points, carburettors and windy windows.

  • And a choke!

  • I'm not sure whether my car auto-brakes or not if there's a collision imminent. Not really got a good way to test it.

  • Personally not a fan of load of automation. But not having to adjust the speed of your wipers or turn on lights takes away a pointless distraction.

  • what is the point of the interior of a modern car other than to solve problems that don't exist

  • I want to buy this and run it until I'm dead

  • When there's nobody to signal to when you want to drive past something that involves crossing a white line; and the fucking car fights you to stay in your lane. Cunts.

  • I would be surprised if a 51-reg Audi really is ULEZ-compliant.

  • Might well be if it’s petrol.
