At times, you can be hurtful.

That type of amplifier ("masthead") needs power fed to it via one of its outputs. You need something like the white box here between one of your TVs and the wall.A six way splitter like that will weaken the signal too much unless you have a masthead booster before it.
If you have a mains socket handy under the stairs it's probably easier to swap the amplifier to a conventional one.

Had to drive to a mate's funeral in London last Thursday, stayed over and drove home on Friday. In the trauma/hangover totally forgot to pay the ulez charge. Remembered today which is too late. Are they going to fuck me with a big fine or will playing the bumpkin simpleton card get me off seeing as it's the first time I've missed it?
-
• #122330
You can challenge it but I've no idea how receptive they'd be, I'm guessing not very. Best you can probably expect is 90 quid instead of 180 for paying the fine within 14 days.
What I would do whilst it's fresh in your head is set up auto pay so you never have to worry about it again.

I just spoke to someone who was firmly 'computer says no'. FFS
-
• #122332
Yeah, I'm not surprised. I'm guessing they'll just say there's leeway in the system already with the time they give you to pay, plus with all the thousands of people a day who must go through, if everyone had an excuse to not pay it'd be impossible to manage it.
Not saying your reason for forgetting to pay isn't understandable btw. I got a congestion charge fine when I just blindly followed Google maps through it, had a kid vomit in the car and general travel stress with kids then completely forgot about it. Gotta just chalk it up to 'shit happens'. At least it'll be 90 quid for going to something that mattered.

Yep. It’s two days so £180. £200 train is all of a sudden looking like better value now…
-
• #122334
Genuinely, I would call back and hopefully get another advisor on the line.
I totally take @Gewürzt point that it gets messy, if you suddenly start giving leeway to thousands of drivers in the same situation... BUT TfL - with things like this - is not usually a "computer says no" organisation.
Every Journey Matters, remember...!
Not much to lose by calling again. Unless you're on a landline.

I said challenge but don't expect much, I've been surprised before. Waltham forest council were always pretty good with regards to stuff like this when it was a genuine mistake imo.
Congestion charge seems like it'll he an immovable object.

There's an appeal process. Read the small print and go to a specialist site like pepipoo for the current procedure. If it's how it used to be when I appealed a parking ticket on a red route, you end up putting your defence at a 1 to 1 meeting with an adjudicator. I don't know whether you lose your right to a discount if you appeal. (I got lucky. The other side didn't submit their paperwork correctly. I had photos to show the adjudicator but he suggested I shouldn't let him see them because I might prove the other side's case.)

You can challenge direct on the tfl website, there's a button to pay PCN and another to challenge.

Thanks chaps, worth a go. If not I've written to them already so will see what written reply I get. I haven't got the pcn through yet, so not sure how long that will take to arrive but extra time to throw myself on the mercy of tfl I guess
-
• #122339
Just got through, the person sounded really responsive and then the call failed. Fml. Called back and got a firm computer says no. Trying again…
-
• #122340
Part of the issue is I don’t have the pcn yet. Going away for ten days from Monday so if I don’t get it before then I’m doomed
-
• #122341
The Dartford tunnel gives a one-off we won't fine you if you forget it so you may get lucky.
-
• #122342
The last guy I spoke to said there is no means to pay a charge after 3 days, it's impossible apparently. I have to wait for the pcn to come through and then they're able to chat about it. So fingers crossed it comes through before I go away and I can give them the (true) sob story and hope they waive it. Not holding my breath though. I've setup autopay

Get this in writing? Would be a good base for the challenge and yeah proves that you tried to get it sorted as soon as you realized it.
-
• #122344
I didn’t no, but I’ve got a twitter dm exchange from Monday morning with someone from tfl so only just outside of the 3 day window for Friday. The only straw I’m clutching at…

Interesting, this is my actual one and it does seem to suggest there should be power (I don't know which room that goes to). Are power supplies for those pretty generic do you know? The internet isn't telling me much
Aerial is only in the loft and there is power up there so I could try a masthead amplifier up there I guess.
I do have a mains socket under the stairs too for a conventional powered splitter.

The matching Labgear kit containing the amp and the power supply is about £25*, you can just insert the PSU into the line connected to the power pass connection with a short patch cable so you don't need to trace which room that goes to.
*e.g. https://www.screwfix.com/p/labgear-kit125vk-1-way-masthead-amplifier-kit/136JR but they're widely available.

You don't even need to go into the loft, you can install the amp next to the splitter with another patch cable. Given the short cable run from the loft to the splitter, your loss of S/N ratio compared with mounting on the aerial mast will be negligible.

Who was it on here that had the purple Kinesis with the oil slick stem etc? I have a question for them!
Edit: nevermind, did some more digging and found 'em

Can anyone remember someone asking about a extrack merckx frame?
Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.
