He fell into that one didn't he.
I think recognising your privilege and explaining why it's not the be and end all, then linking it back to parents wanting to provide the most important things is the way to go.
I wonder to what extent having his level of wealth make him any more out of touch than say Cameron's wealth?
I'd guess growing up Sunak had a fairly average upper middle class lifestyle. School fees were cheaper, his folks relative purchasing power was higher, but that sky comment to me is an actual a little insight.

Most convincing theory yet, about Sunak's genius

Around half of UK households have a Sky subscription.

I grew up in Winchester, a common college-boy joke at the time Sunak was there was “what do you call the box on the back of a Sky dish? A council house”.

It’s probably more that it’s a tone deaf thing to say, rather than sky is a class signifier.
Certainly in my experience growing up, the people who had / didn’t have sky wasn’t matched to income bracket.

Someone should tell the person holding that sign their hands are on backwards.

All this talk of 1990s satellite dishes reminds me I had Videotron cable TV so where was I on the class spectrum?
-
• #1242
You had TV?!?!?!
-
• #1243
I didn't have a TV until I was 10 and never had a games console until I bought one when I was about 25. Can I be prime minister? Never had sky neither.

Not having a TV is the ultimate earnest middle class flex

I'm shocked the multi-millions worth PM can't relate to the general public.

Or ...
Not having ITV is the ultimate earnest middle class flex

When we rented out our home, the tenants asked to put up a satellite dish. We refused and Ngl there was a snob element that informed my opinion.
I also deleted ITV from my freeview BITD.

It always amazes me when I go to my parents now and they have a massive telly.

On another topic.... More or Less this morning had a bit on tactical voting messaging on leaflets.
Apparently 50% of them ref tactical voting (non-Tory natch as they're is only 1/10).
Haven't had a chance to listen to it properly yet, but thought it was something people here would like.

Luxury. We were happy to be beaten on the soles of our feet.
