Does it have to be the M5? having had an M3 and then M2 I'm now using a Leica CL, and I find it the best of the 3, for me personally! The meter also works, which is a plus. I have it paired with a Voigtlander 35mm 2.5. I'm debating if I sell it to fund a new-old digital camera or to fix the Ricoh GR2.

The CL and CLE are on my radar. Cloth shutter again though.
Should maybe just get over this cloth shutter thing, just my dad has just had to return a iiif to ffordes as the shutter was perforated and I have a iiia in about a million pieces on my desk right now as it had shutter curtain issues but was cheap enough to have a go at fixing. The cloth shutter in it just seems like a complicated way to do things and a weak point.
If I did get over the shutter thing then the CLE having aperture priority would nudge it ahead of the CL for me. As I understand it they are a bit smaller than an M and lighter, getting something a bit less dense (?) than my 240 would be nice.
I bought my 240 with some money I got as a bit of inheritance so it’s definitely a luxury that I didn’t need and I got it because that money opened the opportunity of owning a Leica to me. If I’m going to get rid of it I’d like something that sort of has that ‘something’ about it. I’m a bit worried that a CL(E) might feel like I’d gone for the cheap option.

If I have to put a couple hundred into it that’s cool, just could do with not dropping £1500+ and waiting around for mine to sell to get it back.
Looking at how practical it’d be to go visit ffordes in person and should probably just ping them an email as well.

Edit: yeah no Voigtlander or Zeiss bodies, some Leicas but not m5.
A little while ago I’d been very tempted to try and pick up a cheap early M to sit alongside my digital one in which case I’d have been happy with a meterless one but if I’m trading my digital M for it I think I want at least a meter and I’m not sure I want to spend m6 or 7 money on a camera with a cloth shutter. Maybe that’s silly though.
