  • Had to drive to a mate's funeral in London last Thursday, stayed over and drove home on Friday. In the trauma/hangover totally forgot to pay the ulez charge. Remembered today which is too late. Are they going to fuck me with a big fine or will playing the bumpkin simpleton card get me off seeing as it's the first time I've missed it?

  • You can challenge it but I've no idea how receptive they'd be, I'm guessing not very. Best you can probably expect is 90 quid instead of 180 for paying the fine within 14 days.

What I would do whilst it's fresh in your head is set up auto pay so you never have to worry about it again.

  • There's an appeal process. Read the small print and go to a specialist site like pepipoo for the current procedure. If it's how it used to be when I appealed a parking ticket on a red route, you end up putting your defence at a 1 to 1 meeting with an adjudicator. I don't know whether you lose your right to a discount if you appeal. (I got lucky. The other side didn't submit their paperwork correctly. I had photos to show the adjudicator but he suggested I shouldn't let him see them because I might prove the other side's case.)
