I have to confess I haven't ridden much on fixed recently, but a Veteran-Cycle club invitation to a fixed wheel ride made me get this bike down from the loft, and I must say I'm glad I did.
The ride was a fairly modest 30 miles on a loop to the east and north of Stevenage, all on quiet lanes, but including a fair amount of climbing. As an old person there's always the question: can I still climb on a single gear? The answer, yesterday at any rate, was yes, although today my quadriceps are stiff - when I got home I was too busy to massage and that was the result. Old folks need a lot of maintenance to function more or less like middle aged people!
The Bike
The frame is a lugless Gillott, I believe, dating from 1951. Probably intended for a single gear, it was heavily modified as a geared road bike in the eighties. I've ignored the mods and gone back to fixed. Although this bike may look like an old clubman's winter fixed hack, that would be a misjudgement because its got excellent 28 spoke wheels with light veloflex tyres, so even with me on it, it's not slow.

Great bike! Lots of character. I would be tempted to put some more comfy bars on there though

Nice one! I never understood why these have cable stops on the head tube?
-

Thanks! I believe when these were new they had a 3-speed hub gear and that’s what the stops on the headtube and chainstay are for. I want to get some bottle bosses brazed onto the seattube at some point and I’ll probably have those stops removed at the same time. Then it’ll be time for a powdercoat. No clue what colour to go with though!

The dereliction of the poor Wankster™️ lock up road fixed commuter. It’s now a flat barred basket bike RIP

Thanks for your comments @kjlem, @Glws and @Thrasher.
I find the bars perfectly comfortable although I rarely hold the below the brake levers.
That flooring cost much more than all the bikes I own. It also caused a great deal of trouble because the kitchen was out of action for such a long time. There was some rot on the joists under the original 90 year old floor which had become undesirably bouncy.

What would be the best brake levers for these bars?
Looking for the cabling to go through the bar end and then out the back.

With these bars I was running the profile design carbon one, suited to internal routing and best looking in my opinion with a decent shape under the finger.

What bars are these? I have some vision TT levers that I liked, but want to find a bull-hornesque bar with internal routing.
