Ah maybe it's not that dirty then. Maybe they try to avoid stitching a child as it's painful. Having had a fair number of staples and stitches it isn't nice.
I had my head glued together when I was about 11 (someone stamped on my head playing rugby) and that was a piece of piss. Good scar but no pain and plenty of flex / healed up quickly etc.
