  • wow, incredible!!! so so good!!!

  • sorry for the question, that mountain pass picture, its yours? was it during a ride? you printed it? its soooo good!

  • Thanks all for the kind words! I’m chuffed with it I’ll be honest. It came out better than I pictured in my head with some changes along the way (two stems later, two saddles, cable colour?!)

@samrensho it’s definitely nothing like the bikes I’m used to riding that’s for sure. But I tell you now it glides like a magic carpet on the road when up to speed. Smooth as silk. Did ok at Regents laps last week with the guys on the modern bikes. Power transfer non existent but smiles all round when riding it 😄

@jBola the print is from a photographer called Michael Blann. He’s an avid rider and did a project called ‘Mountains’. https://www.michaelblann.com/portfolio/uncategorized/mountains/

  • most of a Dura Ace 7400 group

I think the crankset is 7700, as are the brakes. 7700 was launched in 1996. Do you need 7400, i.e. 1984, for Eroica? Or doesn't it really matter?

I'm a huge fan of 7400 and bought it new in 1984, but compared to other late 70s early 80s stuff from Le Continent, it seems so much more advanced that it's not really in the spirit of Eroica. But I haven't done Eroica, and if I did I'd use 7400, rather than some Sachs Huret nonsense made of cheese.

  • From memory (not the best memory😂)- Cut off is 1987 for Eroica. Chainset is 7400, not 7700 Octalink but the brakes are definitely early 90’s 7403 series (when they launched STI’s )

My intention is to use the bike with STI as soon as I’ve done the event , and also was too scared of using 80’s calipers for 3000m of dusty climbing and descending. Point noted RE the spirit, but this is so much older than anything I’ve ever used 😂😂😂

  • Chainset is 7400

To my eye it looks most unlike a 7400! What's the ref number on the arm?

7400 calipers are definitely suitable for danergous descents. They were such a huge advance over what people were used to that it was like NASA versus British Leyland. To get a big improvement over 7400 you'd need to go all the way to disc brakes. I put 7400 calipers on my touring bike and they were as good as 7900 in my book.

  • Is it 7 speed or 8?

    What are the gear levers?

Will you go to 9 speed when you fit the STI brifters?

Are you going to use toe clips, to get the old geezer vibe?

Or you could get Look PP65, 1984, hugely historic. Hinault's choice. https://www.probikeshop.com/en/gb/static/look-the-story-of-an-iconic-brand.html https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255693876348?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=_BhnH2RSRXW&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=0PDdBtKRSKe&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Looks of that period used the Look Delta cleats, which didn't have any float. This can be hazardous to the knees. (Don't ask me how I know.) If you do many miles with them I recommend one of those clever fitting sessions where they measure the angle which your feet dangle at. IYSWIM. If your knees have to cope with your feet being locked at a slightly wrong angle, they can swell up and lock solid. Then you can't ride at all.

The Dura Ace Looks would do: PD-7401. 1987. Similar to the Look PP-75. They were Lance's choice. He used them long after they were superseded, because he thought them more secure. I had some but I can't find them. I think I may have sold them.

  • Picked up something from @retrodicorsa

😬 Always wanted a high end steel Colnago. This one is a keeper !

On the hunt for a nice quill stem. Something like an ITM Eclypse (I’ve heard these are super stiff and feel most like a modern set up) but not sure about going with chrome as I want the focus to be on the frame. Recommendations?

  • I think the ITM Eclypse is the only quill that works with these kind of frames. Chrome quill with black everything else looks fine imo

  • ITM Eclipse is a good call. 3t pro chrome or pro titanium with a brushed Ti post if you want all silver.
Grammo and a Ti post might look cool as well but I heard they’re quite flexy. That paint job might even work with an art grammo.

And since nobody asked: I vote for silver hubs and spokes :)

  • Had the Colnago built for a week - ticked over 300km on it now and I’m super happy with the fit and ride quality.

Definitely doesn’t have the same kick as the Lynskey but feedback from the road is amazing. Dancing on the pedals is a joy. The frame almost gives something back when out the saddle, not in a spongey way but in a springy way.

Well aware it’s criminal but it fits 25mm tyres with guards also!

  • It’s a keeper for sure!!! Here’s another pic. Went with the 3TTT Titanium stem. Hoping to get a titanium post aswell at some point @retrodicorsa 🫡

  • One of your finest yet I reckon. Definitely needs the Ti post though for balance

  • nice!

  • So cool. Love the slammed ti stem <3

  • Nice job 👌. Glad to see that one go to a good home, and that Ti stem! 😉

  • i look at the ti stem and wonder what it would look like black. i mean, people rarely paint ti and it is a hassle but i like the way the other black parts make the frame pop
Edit ps it is really nice as it is!

  • Been quiet here, but busy IRL! Finished the Vitus of course and a couple of weeks ago took it to L’Eroica. What an awesome event.

    Bike was faultless!

  • In other news, I got knocked off of my Pinarello (thanks cab driver) a few months ago. Which means I’ve been without a summer fast bike.. the Colnago has been getting put through its paces but honestly it just doesn’t cut the mustard in fast group rides. At close to 9kg it’s a slog on the hills too (for efforts)

So I’ve stripped it and rebuilt it onto a frame my friend has kindly lent me until my new Pinarello comes through. First impression is that it’s smooth and that it’ll go well on hills 🥳

Some tweaking to be made but I’m happy to be on a quick bike again.

  • V tidy! Have you weighed it?

  • Thanks! Here’s a closer pic.

It’s 7.09kg, nothing on it is weight weenie apart from the saddle so pretty happy as it’s only a temporary bike! However part of me is wanting to stick my Super Record 12 group on it and go full steam with the build 😂

  • Very decent temporary s-works ! Would ride. Is it a 54 or 56 ?

  • It’s a 54- the saddle has come down a touch since that initial build , but actually the reach / stack are super similar to my crashed 54 Pinarello so the bike feels familiar!

Does anyone have a set of 38cm bars for sale? These are horrible placeholder Deda Z1
