  • Problem is that the bit which holds the cable has splayed out a bit, so rubs on the interior of the shifter. It's pretty tough plastic, but am concerned about trying to bend it back/cut off the splayed bit as it could snap & no longer hold the cable adequately, hmm.

    I'll keep my eye on eBay for a new one. A bit of a minefield figuring out what I need replacementwise as designs for the shifter have changed over the years & I can't figure out what year this is.

  • You only need the cable hole to hold it in the right spot, not so much the part for the head of the cable...

    But if it's cracked and deformed there too, my thought was perhaps a route for some wire (around 1mm) could be made through it to hold it together, and the wire could be twisted tight and tucked away on the inner side.

  • I'm building up an 80 TOEI Campeur / Randonneur and was hoping to run it with a silver Campagnolo triple setup with 8/9 or 10 speed.

    Does anyone have

    • 8/9/10 Downtube shifters
    • Long Cage Derailleur
    • Front Derailleur can be a double or triple design.
  • I have a clamp on front I think is for triple, but it depends on tube width etc as its not for skinny steel

  • Aside from the 'official' Campagnolo instructions, does anyone have any tips on re-bleeding/re-cabling a 12 speed mechanical group set? I'm planning to give my Chorus groupset before a few big cycling trips this summer.

  • Yeah, I was tempted to shave off the bit which caught on the inside of the shifter & superglue a cable in, not the most ideal but it would work. Thanks for the suggestions.

    In the end, found a pretty much new set of identical shifters on eBay for £70 so just going to swap.

  • I've inherited this compact Ultra Torque chainset and, besides a good clean, I'm wondering what else I need for it. Just the bottom bracket cups? Or is there something else missing? The bearing/o-rings appear to be all intact. Cheers.

  • Drive side bearing is indeed missing. Well spotted. Wavy washers appear to be there (that's what I meant by o-rings as I couldn't remember what they were called).

  • Also, presumably I need some hugely expensive tool to tighten the bottom bracket cups?

  • They can be had for as cheap as 10 quid.

  • The after market sets I’ve seen online only come with bearings (and seals).

    BB cup tool is the same as Shimano for threaded BBs.

  • Ah cool. I have the Shimano tool, so that's fine. As are 99p circlips from Halfords.

  • I have lots of used ultra torque cups and wavy washers/circlips. For the price of postage you can have a set - assuming you’re after threaded and bsa thread.

    FYI condor are very good for odds and sods when it comes to Campagnolo spare bits and pieces too - if you can’t find it on their website they’re very helpful on the phone

  • The circlips don’t hold the bearings in place and there is only one circlip which is on the drive side - it is there to hold the drive side arm in place in case the hirth joint bolt fails. You should only need one wavy washer on the non drive side - the circlip notches in to two small holes on the drive side cup.

    Anyone that has used a p2m Campagnolo power meter will tell you how much of a nightmare it is to fit the circlip because of the crank spider (especially if using a press fit bb) and when in fact I queried this with p2m they told me to not bother with the circlip. Considering you torque the hirth bolt to anywhere between 42-50 nm you shouldn’t find it comes undone!

  • Indeed they do, I was describing the safety spring which I (probably mistakenly) assumed people meant when saying circlip
