The rules for the guinness record say the distance has to be at least 18 000 miles, and that route seems to be 18 199 miles, so they can't make it much shorter than that.

Jonas Deichmann did a round the world triathlon a few years ago, though he did fly over the oceans too. But he did swim some of the distance, pretty cool.

I think the best way is to get hitch a ride with sail boat. I'd love to do it one day.

Is that diversion into northern france/netherlands really preferable to going through the alps? I mean, I know it's hilly but that's a lot of miles around and why not cut east earlier? Also, how does it work that she appears to be missing out all of Asia? Maybe that route just not published yet as she waits for visas or something?

That is her full route. The diversion into northern Europe is to give her enough km. She's doing it virtually all in 'easy' countries.

What if you did 9000mi around a velodrome and then 9000mi around a velodrome on the opposite side of the world - would that satisfy Guinness requirements? :)

Doing some long rides in France in the next few weeks, had planned to change shoes to something light colour as my black ones have quite thick uppers and cook my feet a bit in warm weather. But I've left it later than ideal to make the swap so now I'm wondering about some kind of lightweight white over sock. Is there anyway this could help reflect enough heat for the desired effect.

You could probably find studies that compare insulation effect vs. colour effect.

Wasn't there one that actually said white clothing could be bad, because the white 'on the inside' actually reflected heat back? Or did I dream that?
