General Election 2024

  • I had a look at the daily mail website at lunchtime and no mention of the 2k made up tax hit, there was a front page story about how Sunak gave it to Starmer over tax etc. There wasn’t even a politics tab/section to be seen, Markle and Harry get their own section FFS!?

Though after being a bit miffed on the night of the showdown about KS not refuting the numbers I read something earlier that he actually did the lawyer thing really well by letting RS prod him with the 2k stick repeatedly so he could be shot down in flames the following day (though not in the Mail), maybe he is smarter than we are led to believe.

As pointed out by @HousecatHST further up thread.

  • Listening to radio headlines during the day they did seem to move to the story being Sunak potentially lying rather than a labour tax increase or similar so maybe it did work.

  • And on Peston they have run the Tory tax numbers with the same methodology and it comes out at £3k
    LOL.

  • Was it not the Spectator that did that? When you’ve lost Fraser Nelson, you might as well call it a day.

  • Not the hottest topic in town....but my terrible analysis is the hill I will die on.

  • I find it a fascinating debate, Labour have scored a goal with it to a degree, but it was messy.

The most bizarre aspect to it all is that Sunak felt the need to insist that the figure came from independent treasury civil servants, for me that wasn't needed, he could have just kept say £2k, £2k and it would have had the same effect and would just be normal politician BS.

Referencing the independent treasury civil servants is what's made it a clear and obvious lie. I know it's been said a million time but Sunak and his team are just so shit at politics.

  • Pretty sure pausing virtually all your online advertising means things are going so well you don't need it any more.

  • They have to be re-launched after Sunak reveals his new approach today.

  • @ willmelling

    absolutely spot on.

“i wasnt treated fairly so i am going to make sure the party i belonged to doesn’t win in the same seat”

  • Perhaps he'll have, another day off with his advisers for his second reset of the election.

  • “i wasnt treated fairly so i am going to make sure the party i belonged to doesn’t win in the same seat”

Labour have brought this upon themselves and she has every right to run for a seat she has worked tirelessly to win for years. She has raised serious issues about islamophobia and bullying within the party, which was then used as a reason to deselect her which is beyond the pale, serious issues which are now being swept under the carpet.

For context Shaheen used to work in this Greggs. These are the kind of people she is referring to in the Labour party when she refers to her experiences of systematic bullying.

  • A gifted orator indeed

  • Nobody plans on moving to Clacton the same as nobody plans to make a porn film. Eastenders do it cos they get a 3 bed hse w gdn for selling their Bow flat.

  • They've run out of money. Please let it be that they've run out of money.

What are the russian bots up to? I assume they are hoping that will do a job for them.

  • I was about to say that they need to go and hit up that horrible racist northern fella for more cash, but it looks like they already did:

  • Anybody know when/where the list of candidates will be published on Friday?

  • Why didn't she ask him if finishing 10th is top half of the league?

  • They've run out of money. Please let it be that they've run out of money.

Must be challenging for them to raise money - they're not going to win, and most donors must know that. If they've got any money to donate why would they give it to an MP who they know will not win.

  • Never judge a book by it's cover on the T shirt of the man judging everyone by... erm.... yeah well....

    FFS

  • Honestly, this is just politics. Generally the only times it's worth shifting around your MPs are by-elections and GE. The GE is obviously the main one because by giving someone a winnable seat they can become an MP in the majority party.

You can then also reward them for loyalty, which helps with your high level strategy for government.

Unfortunately this is just the way real life works.

  • This is my thought.

    Keep your money.

Spend it later, or on some Think Tank "research" to pressure Labour once in power.

  • For the record, because I happen to be using this data right now for work, according to the 2021 Census data, 15.42% of the population i Oldham self identify as living in a household where English is not the primary language.

    National average is 10.73%.

Adjusting for skewness, Oldham less than a single standard deviation from the norm. Not really an outlier.

Kensington and Chelsea is at 42.11%. In fact
London Boroughs represent most of the top 25.

  • Stop the Tories have got there postcode search live now.

Some seats there still waiting for more information. Mine, Hamble Valley still has nothing, my feeling is it'll be Lib Dem, but it'll be close. They also don't have any information for Fareham, which is odd as Labour have been clear second place since 2010, but the local council has moved more and more towards the lib dems, but still very tory. Labour won there first seat ever this year.
