  • Any tips for adjusting 2 speed bromptons, I’ve resorted to replacing the pusher and jockey wheels (the pusher was about 50% work and one of the jockey wheels was broken) (about 100 miles after the chain, cogs and chairing) but despite setting it to just not touching the inside in the big cog and the outside in the little cog it still isn’t that keen to shift smoothly… mildly infuriating… I do have the parts to swap the cables and other gear bits but what I’ve read suggests that should be a last resort…

  • Before posting on the classified thread, is anyone needing a 6 speed c line?

Black with sliver drivetrain, handlebars, mudguards and wheels. Only used a handful on miles by his partner. Asking for £700 and collection only.

    (Lights not included).

  • I had an H&H rack fitted by @sbbohr but am finding that it's getting caught by things on the ground (especially those tactile dots used at crossing and train platforms). Anyone else having/had this issue and if so, did you find a sensible fix?

Larger easy wheels seem like they'd work, but I can't find many with a much larger diameter, and those that I do find are ridiculously expensive.

  • These are quite frequently suggested, though I'm sure even larger diameter ones can be found.

  • Are you using 4 wheels on the rack, or just two? I found moving to four Joseph Kousac wheels (larger and better rolling than the standard Brompton ones) made a huge difference vs just using two and made it both more stable and less likely to catch.

It isnt perfect, still catches sometimes if doorframes/broken pavement tiles but I’ve not particularly noticed it on the tactile pavement at stations or similar since making the change

  • What’s your set up like now? I have the same rack and larger wheels on mine and my partner bike and it rolls fine.

  • People who mentioned riding gravel on the last page - can you elaborate a bit more on how it was on the Brompton? Am going to Devon for a week and while I would love to take my gravel bike, I’ll be the only cyclist in the group and it might be overkill. But it would be nice to get out and explore a bit as well, so if I don’t I’ll at least take the Brompton - but having not really done any distance on gravel on the thing, I’m wondering how well prepared I will be…

  • I can only speak for myself, but I rode the Gravel Superhighway (Marriotts Way) and Bure Valley Path last year, about 40 miles (?) and TBH it was exactly how I you’d expect. I have a 6 speed with flat bars. Whilst it was fun for the first bit, it’s crush, hard packed chips like a towpath, once you hit the softer sandy bit there was a lot of wandering and the front wheel wanted to dig in a lot. The fact I had a bag on the front didn’t help. I’d put my stuff on the rear rack or in a backpack next time. Then you get to the dirt and lumper bit, it was dry so no mud to contend with, it was jarring to say the least. If you like the way your Brompton rides you’ll be fine, if you find it odd you’ll find it extra odd. The main issue is you can’t air down the tyres to help with traction and comfort or you’d get pinch flats, due to the size of the tyres. The good point is you can get a train taxi bus back so can follow trails without having to find a loop back or retracing your ride out. Would I do it again? Yeah I would, in fact the bike lives in the car just in case.
If you can spare the space go for it. A slightly difficult ride is better than no ride.

  • It's the H+H rack, so only has wheels at the rear (the upgraded Brompton Ezy wheels), and I have a rear light mounted to the plate provided (B+M top light mini). The tip of the light catches on the tactile dots and it's pretty smashed by now.

  • Ah ok. I had that problem too and gave up and mounted the light under the saddle instead to keep it out the way, running the cable through the seatpost and out the top with a bit of elastic to give it some tension when folded.

Does seem to be a flaw of the aftermarket racks that there isn’t a good light mounting point unlike the official rack :(

  • Echo Chaley, it’s fine (but a bit bumpy) of towpath type gravel that’s been bedded down, but I find it gets pretty uncomfortable when the going gets rough eg farm tracks or bridleways. If a normal person would take a normal mixte/hybrid/Dutch bike on the path then it’s be fine, if it needs a more specialised bike or a normal person would only go on a mtb then you may have less fun.

However bike ride > no bike ride so give it a go and if necessary one can always walk parts of it.

  • Does anyone have a rear mudguard set up going spare that they want to sell?

I'm trying to shave a bit of weight by losing my rack but I don't think I can live without a mudguard.

Blade, stays and roller would be great. I have silver at the moment but black would be fine too.

...I guess I could possibly do a swap if you wanted to add a rack to your Brompton??

  • It's loads of fun, and as other have mentioned, so much better than no bike.

It gets difficult when it's muddy, poor traction and if you have mudguards they tend to clog.

    Give it a go!

  • Crete. View of the Aegean. Roads are fine, hills are steep, mountains aren’t doable for me on this bike. Hard packed gravel along the coast is not too much an issue; have to walk along some sandy bits.

Sunny, cycle friendly, relaxed, v. light breeze. Recommend 👍👍

  • Anyone got a front mudguard or even just the e-hook available?

  • @HoKe I have a pair of silver mudguards that are no longer used - send me a DM if of interest

  • I'm looking for a rear! @HoKe wanna split?

  • I might want to keep the rear as my gf one is dead too, serves me right for neglecting servicing them…

  • Stripped back to almost OG, still have the baby seat mount and ready for the BWC.

  • Words on the street is the g-line will be coming out around October time (though I won’t hold my breath).

  • G

    or
    G

    ?

But I suspect you are discussing the same as this discussion and interestingly a development website offering the same has been picked up by search engines. Whether this is a cock-up or conspiracy only someone at B would know.

  • Debating taking the plunge on a Brompton for commuting and future potential zipping to station as and when we might move out of town.

Anyone got any strong opinions on the C Line Explore if I could get one for a sensible price?

  • With that cable routing at the front of the bike I hope not…

  • Really depends on your journey, 6 or 3 speed is perfect for hilly areas. 2 speed is great for flats but does require a little more maintenance.
