  • Cheers. Seems like that could be the way to go.

  • There are a few chrome extensions that let you tick boxes and write text, can't remember which I used last but search the extension store.

  • Is there a good way to gather customer feedback online by emailing editable PDFs?

Adobe would say yes. I would disagree. If you open it in Acrobat Reader it will likely work as the author intended but a lot of alternative PDF viewers don’t support the full functionality the standard offers, so the reality is PDF is rarely the right tool for the job unless you can control the device the form is being filled out on.

Signed, someone who has created interactive PDFs for the NHS while being very clear that it wasn’t the right tool for the job.

  • Aha! So they're widely used by the NHS? Do the managers think they can collect meaningful data by excluding many (most?) of the respondents? And is it normal to ask respondents to use a biro?

  • Printing out and using a biro is usually a concession accommodated in the design phase when someone like me says that most respondents won’t be able to use the form as intended but someone up the chain is wedded to the idea and will hear no alternative. Using a biro on your screen is not recommended.

I can’t say if they’re widely used or not, I would have assumed some kind of easily deployed web form would be to hand, but that wasn’t an option on the project I was involved with.

  • I've done the edit with Adobe Reader and it was brilliant, though it kept trying to trick me into opening an account, 7 day trial etc. I can't see any other patients bothering, ever. Perhaps some would have done in the days when Reader was bundled with Windows. Many thanks for your knowledge!

  • What charity shops/places in North London (Stoke Newington) will be happy to take in a literal van load of clothes?

We're clearing the flat of a young-ish woman who had a lot of decent quality clothes and other things that are very charity shop friendly, but I feel I'd be overwhelming any individual shop I take that much stuff to.

  • I would call the charity you'd like to donate to and ask them the best way to go about it. Or call the shops and ask them.

E.g. The British Heart Foundation do house clearances and will also pick up large furniture items for free. It doesn't say on their website that they offer pickups for large amount of clothing, but I suspect that's probably because it's a niche thing. They definitely have vans and will come and pick stuff up.

  • Think Traid would be fine with the clothes, it's what they specialise in.

They'd probably even collect it if you needed.

  • How are you meant to embed images inline in forum posts these days please?

Attaching images is all good but they always go to the bottom, I have a few I want to embed within text.

Edit: Seem to have it working with imgur but doesn't feel like the best way?

  • How are you meant to embed images inline in forum posts these days please?

Place the image on a reliable server, insert into content using the image button.

If you don't have your own server, you can attach to a post in the testing section and use that as the source.

  • working with imgur

For now. Those image hosting sites change URLs periodically specifically to cripple embedding.

  • I use the message function and have a thread in my PMs with uploaded images when I need to embed.

  • Yeah, that would work too.

  • Less embarrassing if you accidentally select a dick pic too.

  • Am I imagining it or is Destiny's Child's Independent Women, Pt. 1 largely based on Booker T & the M.G.'s cover of Sly and the Family Stone's Sing A Simple Song?

Both the individual beats in the main rhythm repeated from the start (about 16 seconds in video) and the 'All the Women' melody at about 1:13.

It's been annoying me since 2000 that it reminded me of something. But it's not in the usually comprehensive WhoSampled, and I can't find any mention elsewhere.

  • I'm not sure. There's a similarity of beat, but the cut off at the end of the bar (no idea if thats the correct term) doesn't match and it doesn't feel dropped on purpose.

Also I had no idea you could play two videos at the same time on a page! Had a lot of fun trying to mix them with no fader.

  • Thanks. That's what I thought re: Imgur, don't trust it!

  • Ooh good idea, ta.

  • Who's the thread with though, that's the question!

  • You mean in a philosophical sense?

Or literally "what name do I put in the box?"

  • how do you get past times paywalls?
archive doesnt seem to work and nor does 12ft...

  • Ok say someone lists these 3 bands, and asks for a fourth , what would your answer be?

    1. Hawkwind
    2. Crass
    3. KLF
    4. ?
