  • I've had my mobile number for a long time but it seems more and more stuff is asking for your number when registering for accounts or whatever (and requiring it to be correct by sending a code via SMS or something).

I'd like some way to have an alias number that will then forward (mainly SMS) to my actual mobile or a website or app or whatever. Bonus points if you can have multiple numbers or disposable ones or something. I wouldn't mind paying a quid or two a month for it but that's probably it.

Firefox Relay seems to do what I want but isn't available in the UK. Or, and this has just occurred to me, is there some kind of super cheapo PAYG e-sim I could get and occasionally discard?

  • A&A will do but I think it's £10/month minimum. I didn't find anything cheaper when I looked a few years ago.

    My burner set up:
    Giffgaff sim -free
One off (non-recurring) Goody Bag to get it up and running - £6
Top up for out-of-bundle calls, i.e. after the Goody Bag expires £5
Phone home for 1s every month - 10p or so out of your top-up balance
Mobile that stays active for years for receiving 2FA texts from questionable resources - priceless
