  • Think you are right, the prices when those cars were 5, 10 and 20 years old fit.

Look at MK1 escort prices but that was 30 odd years

  • It's a 5 door. No one wants the 5 door.

  • We are of the age that appreciate shorter front doors.

  • Fair enough, and it's a good thing we don't all like the exact same cars! Sorry if I came across as criticising your opinion.

I think my post could have been better worded if I'd just said something like "be aware of build quality issues and electrical issues".

I have owned 2 x Clios built in 2000 and my mother had an 04 Megane for 15 years. She must have spent well over 10 grand on fixing electrical issues during that time!

  • That is a lot of electrical issues.

  • That is a lot of electrical issues. Or problem finding

  • Took my 996 to Simply Porsche today as I’d never visited Beaulieu before (parked in what looks like the grey section lol). Loads of beautiful cars and the weather played ball too.

  • How many first gen Cayenne’s did you see?

  • Big dumb V8 goes into tiptronic "Active Select" mode again after I adjusted the shift linkage. It's a big old car to jack up, but was good to get underneath it and see it's not rusty underneath while I was adjusting the shift linkage.

Other issues are still intermittent, but being able to choose which gear I'm in makes me forget all of those issues.

  • Bushings knackered on the linkage?

I have a short shift kit for my Beetle to install and am wondering if redoing all of the bushing in the shifter is worth doing at the same time.

  • The answer, almost invariably, is yes

  • Any idea what causes this to happen and more importantly how easy/expensive it is to fix?

  • Yeah most likely, need to order a new one from rock auto

  • That's the laquer peeling isn't it? I don't think it can be fixed without respraying that panel, which I guess means getting that door done in this case.

  • Just saw the one in the participant area. Lots of 996's which was nice, including one with a roof tent which got top spot in the votes. Loved these two in the museum.

  • As said already, that's lacquer peel, you'll need to get it painted

  • Am I wrong to hanker after an Alpine? My other half is totally bewildered when i told her I love them.

    All a bit Partridge really

  • lol’d IRL

  • Laugh? I nearly paid my RoAd TaX

  • I think i can carry more luggage on my Thorn

    A110? Sexy cars.

  • Hivemind, any recommendations in the London/Kent/South area for places that can help make the back of my van look lush and tidy (ply lining, some carpeting, maybe a vent or 2, etc.)?
    #vanlife

  • Absolutely not. My mate who worked at multimatic and is a dynamic systems/suspension nerd said the Alpine is the car to get in that class if your number one priority is "handing" over outright grip. Helps that it looks wonderful too.
