  • Asides from sometimes getting a bit tetchy (similar to Sunak funnily enough) I think she comes across better than people here are giving her credit.

She's articulate and speaks clearly. She doesn't seem to fumble and become unstuck. She isn't awkward and weird.

With the right policies and guidance I think she could get very far. Underestimating her is a mistake.

My hope is that she is mistaken in how much the UK public gaf about identity politics anymore and she takes too long to pivot to a new battle ground.

  • She's articulate and speaks clearly. She doesn't seem to fumble and become unstuck. She isn't awkward and weird.

That's what I said, speaks with confidence despite it being utter bullshit that's just been proven bullshit. It's an odd skill, to just carry on steamrolling along with confident lies and almost relevant taglines and no real comprehension of what's been asked of you. I imagine it works well when edited into sound bites bereft of context. I'd rather she'd gone into acting where she could use those skills without harming others.

  • Even Tory voters do not give a shit. The Sky election podcast suggested its just out there to try and get Labour to react as a wedge issue

  • She's an opportunist of the most horrific kind, she sees votes in these absurd culture wars despite probably not caring much about the issue or people involved. Saying rape jokes are trivial isn't helpful.

  • So it's a personal agenda point for someone/a group of people in the party then? Or maybe a pressure group in a prominent Tory's constituency? Or cynically making an example of being able to control/remove hard-fought-for rights from a perceived 'woke' group that they see as not being able to fight back?

I mean clearly it's being nasty for the sake of it.

  • Just because she sounds clearly annunciated doesn’t mean her words make sense. It’s like Jordan Peterson, a stupid persons idea of what a clever person sounds like.

She reminds me of this, sounds like English but is gibberish.

  • she sees votes in these absurd culture wars

She can't see votes in it - the chart above suggests no one cares so presumably the data where there's votes available to her over it doesn't exist. Even if the data for that chart was out wildly, +/- 500%, still no one would care.

It's got to be a personal view? Or a projection of herself onto what she thinks people are like?

  • Does Kemi Badenoch not deserve any respect as the first elected black woman to be a member of the cabinet? I think there is some cognitive dissonance going on. It might be worth reflecting on what it is about her that some people find so annoying, in particular.

  • Hard agree.

Maybe I'm misreading the room, but my takeaway from posts (snotter aside) was dismissal. Whereas I think if put onto the right topics and strategies she could be scarily effective.

  • It's got to be a personal view?

I think you're going too deep. The question is whether it helps achieve the short term objectives:

    1. Safe seat
    2. Cabinet
    3. Backed by political party as future leader
    4. Voted by members as leader
    5. Win GE

I think the Tory political party is still mentally hitched to the culture war stuff, and don't understand what the population really think eg Miriam Cates. This is something to raise her profile and so far it's worked.

  • Yes - you're right. It's the party members whose votes she's trying to attract rather than the general publics.

  • Having said he wouldn't it sounds like Farage might run for election. He's making an "emergency election announcement" at 4

  • Losing mind games with Piers Morgan isn't a strong look.

  • I liked this piece: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/jun/03/keir-starmer-labour-left-rishi-sunak-tories

There's a point here about the cognitive dissonance those on the left are faced with right now (although without using those terms explicitly). I certainly feel it.

  • Or he's had a massive falling out with Tice about trying to do a private deal with the Tories and is leaving Reform?

  • Why does she feel she has to be even nastier than her white colleagues? Same as Braverman/Patel. There is something deeply wrong with the psyche going on.

  • Is she (are they) generally nastier, or are we projecting? If the former, is that a measure of the higher effort needed to be accepted within the hierarchy?

  • It will be interesting to see what Farages definition of emergency is

  • Anything that costs him the potential of making some cash, I've heard...

  • To keep the left wing conservatives out, I need you to reach in your pockets and send me some money....

  • reading shaheen’s recent tweets maybe labour was right in not selecting her

  • Is he going to stand? I fucking bet he is. Cunt.

  • It'll be 8 from 8 then.

Quick, someone register to stand as a dolphin. Then he's finished.
