Ha, very similar but the other way round and an island off. Poros was very nice, we had a room on the first floor of a family run beach bar off the main town. We catched the cook son on his last day there because of the end of season and then gave him free reign to conjure something up which was delicious. We had to vacate because it had been booked but returned after two days. Turned out the couple that had been staying in "our" room in the meantime had also wanted to extend but we beat them to it. A testament to the bliss.
Methana does sound better though, less touristic and larger. Epidaurus was indeed very impressive with the acoustics, as was Corinth Canal. We also did Nafplion, Micaene, and a Byzantine Site near Sparta. You'll stumble over UNESCO Heritage sites when there really.
Athens is also really nice. The beautiful historic sites but also the gritty city itself. Really vibrant. Incredible food.
Should go back really.
We started in Athens and drove a hire car through the Peloponnese down to Methana, stopping at Epidauros for the stunning amphitheatre, the Corinth Canal and a couple of smaller sights. It was blissful.
Methana is very sleepy and beautiful, with lots of walks around/through the ancient volcano it sits on. Ximi’s Fish Bar on the tiny bay is incredible.
