  • It’s so you don’t toptube yourself when that shift completes as you push off.

  • lol. But would you rather get bottlecaged?

If you squint, it looks like a Rob English.

  • So we're still posting bikes for people with disability / mobility issues?

  • Probably worth deleting this post mate. Your use of the word ‘reasons’ is in poor taste.

  • Your use of the word ‘reasons’ is in poor taste.

Only if you make unwarranted assumptions. Unless you have specialist knowledge it's not apparent that the design is meant to cater for a disability. To me it just looks like an unusual frame.

  • I kinda like it. Moreso, that looks exactly like the bike my ex wanted to have minus a chain guard.

  • Took all of 2 seconds to find out the story. Built for a lady who otherwise was planning on giving up riding.

    Adjust your comments as necessary.

  • As @RonnieOatmilk has stated, it takes all of 2 minutes to gain the ‘specialist knowledge’ you speak of.

Edit: are you not too busy training to be a combat medic to still be posting on here?

  • it takes all of 2 minutes to gain the ‘specialist knowledge’ you speak of

Right. I'm sure it does. What is it about that photo which would prompt me to go and learn for 2 minutes? It just looks like one of those ugly town bikes which are so common in Netherlands and Germany.

Actually don't bother to answer. Just get in the sea.

  • Maybe a sense of curiosity? “That’s an interesting frame. It looks like a super short step through, but it is clearly made from titanium. Oh it is a Zinn frame. Oh it has SRAM Force. Interesting build. I wonder why it was designed like that”. Was how it went for me.

  • I know several folk who can no longer lift a foot over a rear wheel or top tube but still enjoy riding. Some of them want to ride a performance bike, rather than a weighty town bike. This is just another example of a custom performance bike that meets their needs.

  • And you went from that to accusing someone of mocking the disabled when you had no idea whether they knew it was a bike for someone with a disability. Please stop standing up for the disabled if this is how you think it should be done.

  • Somebody posted a bike that was designed for someone that, for physical reasons, is unable to ride an off the peg bike in the anti-porn section of the forum. I, along with a couple of others have called it out.

You defended it because your cursory glance told you that it was a Dutch bike and your lack of curiosity meant that again you didn’t think before you posted. Why don’t you run along and clean that egg off your face?

  • I, along with a couple of others have called it out

Called out what, exactly? To the extent that the OP made any comment, it was to the effect that the function excused the form, but still mistakes were made in the aesthetic treatment. Adaptive technology doesn't have to look hideous, and your white knighting demonstrates at least one of several kinds of patronisation. If you feel you have to have some kind of victory before dismounting from your high horse, I'd concede that the scare quotes around 'reasons' were uncalled for.

  • I’d concede that the scare quotes around ‘reasons’ were uncalled for

That is all I originally said.

  • That looks amazing.

  • Hang on a sec, couldn't you say that folks without a physical disability who build hideous bikes have an intellectual, or at least, aesthetic disability?

In a sense, this thread is totally about making fun of the disabled.

  • Why don't you stop claiming moral authority and trying to moderate other people's posts?

Or alternatively, just carry on. It's hilarious.

  • ‘reasons’

This can mean anything you want it to mean. Pretending that you believe it to be a slur on the disabled, making a drama of 'calling it out', instructing others to edit their posts....it's just farcical virtue-signalling. It's so absurd that it's got to be fake. Well trolled.

  • There, but for the grace of God etc etc etc...

But if we get some enjoyment from pointing and laughing, and we're not actually vilifying or making vilification of unfortunates more likely, where's the harm?

  • Man, you've made me have to fire up r/fixedgearbicycle just to move this thread on

  • unfortunates

I don't think anyone means any harm here. The way we speak about disabilities is important. I don't think this is the right choice of words.

  • As someone who is both disabled and owns an excessively flimsy Ti bike, I declare this done to death.
