My GF has chronic back pain issues that made sleeping so fraught it developed into a nice anxiety driven inability to sleep if she even thinks she might get disturbed and not get back to sleep.
after a couple of years of trying to share a bed but ending up being kicked out onto the sofa bed at 3am I just conceded and slept on the sofa bed in the living room in our tiny 1 bed flat instead. wasn't the best on my back sometimes and meant I couldn't go to bed very early on the rare occasion I wanted to but we both got much better sleep.
we're renting outside of london now and both have our own rooms, now the dog and I sleep in the "guest room" and when we have guests visit I sleep on the day bed in my study which is a bit small for a fat git like me esp with the dog but it really is living the dream compared to the hell years of sharing a bed.

Two singles in the same room
Bit Mormon that, ain't it? It's an eminently sensible idea but she wouldn't go for it. Moving to a bigger place where she can have a dog and I get a separate bedroom is an easier sell!

I've been really interested in infant sleep (having had 2 kids) and the study of sleep in general wrt to myself. In my mat leave(s), I've been honing my sleep ability and I've been lucky to never have had the inability to sleep, rather it's my super power.
So been consuming this podcast recently and it's been really interesting.

(His huberman show is good too.)
Also Gina Poe has been really interesting - https://hubermanlab.com/dr-gina-poe-use-sleep-to-enhance-learning-memory-and-emotional-state/I hope it helps someone out there.

with zero effect.
Alcohol works much better.

Breath….
Sleep hygiene is all well and good (I try as much as I can to be good with the points above) but my partner tosses, turns and kicks and bucks like she's in the final furlong at Cheltenham so yeah, separate rooms and beds is the way forward.
