Not people but I found it funny that a company called Arcelik wants to let me know our new washing machine is a type of radio equipment

It's the website that kills me every time.
I have fairly regular calls with someone from Arcelik, thankfully I'm professional enough not to snigger every time he mentions the name of the company.

Hahahahaaa, arcelikas.com!! I didn’t even see that! How tf can you hold it together when talking about this??

I couldn't remember that one or didn't see it. Good enough to be re-posted.

They have big Arcelik stores in Asia, remember seeing them in Iraq and (I think) Jordan.

Arçelik own the Beko brand which is less embarassing in the UK market.
Possibly adopted after frequent Galatasaray vs Man Utd Champions League matches in the '90s,
(with pitch-side 'Arçelik' advertising), brought derision rather than an upswing in white goods sales in the UK. -

Any Turkish peoples on here? From memory letter C with small line under in Turkish is actually pronounced CH, like chili, not cili.
-
• #1261
Yeah, the '-çelik' means steel in Turkish.
'Ar-' doesn't have immediate meaning for my rusty Turkish, could just be initials. -

Something a bit different--perfectly normal names being turned into silly names by silly software:
(AutoCorrect shouldn't exist, it's an absolute nonsense.)

I'm very pleased auto correct exists.

Anyone here following the Rapha Pennine Rally 2024? One unlucky sod who finished 4th in the Solo Standard race has the best surname ever: Georgie Panchaud.
One for the desis and our well-cultured friends: https://www.followmychallenge.com/live/rapha/pennine-rally-2024/

Aupaluktuq is a common last name among the people I work with, but new baby names sometimes stop me in my tracks - River Jordan in this case.

The president of the royal horticultural society is called Keith Weed
I used to know him. A gobby bore who did shampoo brand management. He never mentioned gardening. I bet he only does the RHS for the networking.

We go to the Knepp Estate regularly (it's free to visit), but never twigged ;-) on the name.
Can see white storks there, plus dartmoor ponies, cows, pigs and deer just roaming around the place. They have some beavers there too, but in a secret fenced off area. It's home to loads of purple emperor butterflies and a few turtle doves along with the usual kestrels, buzzards and other birds etc.
They run "safaris" too in an old Austrian army vehicle which is quite fun, including some dusk ones where you have a sundowner by a small lake and have a glass of wine.
