Yes, canisters are the big weakness for gas stoves. If you don't mind, I'd suggest you look closely at the Calder Cone system, because you can just use meths as a main fuel, no need for a backup. When they first became widely available they were very popular with the ultra-light crowd, precisely because you could get fuel anywhere, and they were, well, light.
