  • I guess it varies between makers and manufacturers but from experience with both of Revelate's full framebags offerings: the mountain version gets quite a bit wider towards the front whereas their full road frame bag is uniform width. The road version has a horizontal velcro divider too, which helps (a little) with over stuffing.

  • Will check it out - ta

  • But has bikepacking.com increased the elegance? 🤣 https://www.lfgss.com/comments/17366578/

  • I don't think so. I've got a mix of custom and off the shelf bags though and specified skinnier for my road bag.

The issue is more likely that MTBs have much more sloped top tubes, so your knees are nowhere near the bag when riding. Whereas road and gravel bike top tubes tend to be or approach horizontal and put the bag closer to your knees.

  • Dorset dirt dash

Is that the same as the one they used to run from a shop with a mad man with massive hair? Did that many years ago and the route was excellent.

  • My understanding is q-factor is slightly greater on mountain bike cranks so likely to be more of an issue with road/gravel as opposed to mtb when it comes to frame packs

  • That's the one. Absolute belter this year

  • Charlie the Bikemonger.

  • I need something similar/equivalent to the Restrap bumper bar, what are my options?

It's for head tube paint preservation on a bike I'll be borrowing, rather than increasing handlebar real estate.

  • What bag are you planning on using, standard bar roll? If it’s a one off then a couple of those alu handlebar extender things of eBay/amazon to mount lights etc could to the job to brace the bag against.

If you want to invest and don’t have a bag already could look at the salsa handlebar (EXP?) cradle?

  • I will likely be using an Apidura handlebar pack and accessory pocket and need to look after a loaner that I won't receive until a couple of days before I ride it, so no time to do much in the way of experimentation.

Guess one of those cheap eBay extenders is worth a punt.

  • That's the man.

I did the ride on an old Kona HumuHumu which I had at the time (and regret selling). He came over when I arrived, looked it over and said "of course it's not a real klunker is it...", then walked off.

Never spoke to me again all weekend other than at the campsite to say we couldn't camp in the bluebells as Judy Dench was coming to look at them tomorrow lol

  • FAO snoops and the small rear luggage support/anything but a tailfin club

Execution is getting cleaner, but the bag looks a little compact. No way you're getting cramming the contents of a Carradice in there, although you could still strap your rain cape on top 😉

  • Nice.

    We’re getting closer.

  • Quite a few bikepacking folks rolling through central mcr this afternoon, is there a race on or something?

  • Pennine Rally probably

  • Ah yes, quick Google suggests as much. Nice few days for it, barely a spec of mud seen on folks that passed by.

  • Any recommendations for clear tape to help stop bags rubbing carbon frame/paint? I saw a few kits, but think a roll would be more useful.

  • Helicopter or Gorilla clear.

  • As above, helicopter tape / 3M 8671HS
    https://www.selfadhesive.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=3M+8671HS+Polyurethane+Tape+Short+Roll

Get a few different widths and you'll cover a few bikes for much less than a single kit.
