  • Doing some mtb maintenance today and discovered my mtbs bb is due a service, owing the dry, grindy sound that comes as I spin the cranks. It does seem a shame that it seems shimano specify that you should just throw the whole lot in the recycling and replace with a new one. I have duly bought a new one from merlin for 23 quid including shipping.

I've investigated getting a hope one with replacable bearings but they're in the order of 90 quid and a quick Google suggests replacement bearings for them are £40 alone. Ho hum.

  • So far so good- looking what prompted the service was a) I was getting fork and shock done, so why not and b) when the dropper was down and I tried to lift the bike by the saddle it came up then pulled down elasticly

If you buy Hope bearings, yes. Or you can buy some Enduro ones for £7 instead.
There was a time when everything went bought cost more - clothes, furniture, etc - but it lasted for years if not generations. Fwiw, my Hope BB is second hand, been completely neglected for 5 years and it's still butter smooth

  • Anyone know of an upper chain guide mount that would be a maximum of 4mm thick at the ISCG mounting locations?

You're not meant to do that.

  • You're not meant to do that.

Yeah, see I know this very very well and yet I still end up absentmindedly doing it. I suspect that it’s part of why my post has 5mm squish.
I’d like to service it to have it rock solid again but I’d just end up annoyed going to effort of the service by my self then grabbing the bike by the saddle again.

  • I am aware of that, but I’ve done it with every other dropper post I’ve owned/own and they’re all fine.

  • I probably shouldn't have my mtb hanging in the workstand by the seatpost then 🫠

  • It's fine if it's extended fully.

  • Or you've got one of Dammit's other ones.

  • It's fine if it's extended fully

    So I've been told

  • How much trouble does everyone think i'm in here. Hopefully nothing major.

  • That's the answer my bank balance needs to hear!

  • 10/10 would ride for years

  • Probably had the best ride of the year on Saturday. North Downs trails round Ranmore and Mickleham were super tacky, all the weeds haven't grown yet, so no stings or scratches and you can actually see round the corners - plus the last of the bluebells were still hanging in there, to provide some elegance.

It's my favourite time of the year by a mile. Hardly saw anyone out on the trails though. Was a massive queue at the Surrey Hills Brewery afterwards and a busy platform at Westhumble station to get home - but all walkers. Baffles me how everyone seems to head only for Peaslake - bet that was heaving.

  • Who is running 2.3mm rotors and has found a truing tool that actually fits over a 2.3mm rotor?

I bought the Feedback Sports one from Amazon and found that it doesn’t fit over a 2.3mm rotor or even a 2.0mm rotor. I suppose I could file the slots down slightly but that doesn’t seem right considering the tool wasn’t really that cheap.

I know I can use an adjustable wrench but really want the proper tool.

  • Anyone happen to have a spare 450lbs 151mm Rockshox spring, ideally in black?

    Edit: sorted

  • Assuming I fit AXS to my Stanton, what are the chances of me transferring the existing 12s bits off my Stanton onto my Ogre? Ogre is 11s currently.

I presume it's a no go, because I think the 12s stuff is Microspline which would require a new hub or freehub? Perhaps there's an aftermarket freehub for my wheel? Or, perhaps there are 12s cassettes that don't use Microglide that would fit on the rear wheel I've got allowing me to use the 12s RD and 12s shifter?

  • I think a normal SRAM 12 speed cassette for HG would fit?

  • Ok, so assuming I could get that onto the wheel, I could then move the shifter and RD over (and chain) and I'd have 12s with a 52T cassette?

  • 11-50 if you use the NX eagle cassette: https://www.sram.com/en/sram/models/cs-pg-1230-a1

  • What 12speed stuff do you want to carry over?

  • This one might work better with shimano ... https://sunrace.com/product/csmz903-wa1-5/
