  • Would anyone be interested in this two piece Alpinestar suit?

    Jacket has been worn a handful of times with very minor blemishes. Trousers worn for one summer. Photo was taken recently and they haven'y been ridden in for years.

    Trousers are a EUR48
    Jacket is EUR50

    Looking at eBay I think £200 is fair if collected from South East London

  • Cheers, took it out for cheeky half hour at lunch time. Need to play around with traction settings, try it without the ABS, different ride settings, etc., but I did have a smile on my face.

    Anywhere between 20-30 is on the cusp of 2nd and 3rd, so lots of gear changes, and I’ll have a forearm like popeye with the clutch, so I’ll have to adjust it.

    Will get out of London on the weekend and try the quick shifter and auto blipper. And see what 4th, 5th and 6th feel like. Sounds lovely mind, with the race can…

  • No, not really, 1st would get you well well past 30. But bimbling around in city traffic, pulling away and kicking it up to 2nd, I found I was changing up to 3rd at around 25 (probably out of habit) which was too soon, yet staying in 2nd felt a bit revvy. I can play around with the settings - there’s a custom one - and see what that does.

    really stupid question - doing car insurance - for my dad (long story) - who has a gs1200 as well as his one car. Is the answer to the above question 1 or 0? Can't find online if insurers class motorbikes as vehicles.

  • Revvy is good, my bike will change to third at 25 and chug along but these days I’m holding second until 40 and using the top half of the tacho. I’ve been doing my IAM training since the start of the year and this is one of the things they teach you, holding a more responsive gear they call it. They’re also keen on getting the pegs down in the corners and using the whole tyre.

  • 1, he has use of another vehicle (van, bike etc) so will not be using his car as much as someone where it is their only form of transport. Should bring his risk factors down.

    Annoyingly they won’t consider a cycle a vehicle, even for someone living in a major city.

  • Bloody Ducatis... had the bike serviced ahead of Distinguished Gentleman's Ride last weekend and picked it up midweek and got some Pirelli Rosso IIIs fitted. Geared up to ride it home from my folks place on Saturday afternoon, let it warm up for 10mins on the yard before leaving and then made it about 20km before loss of power on the motorway... much sleuthing, two helpful bypasses and a van recovery back to HQ and we eventually ascertained a fuel line inside the tank had blown off the pump and hadn't been making fuel pressure...
    Annoyingly I discovered this was actually a problem that had been a factory recall over a decade ago and some previous owner of this bike had obviously had this problem before but only chose to replace the problematic clip and leave the rest for me to have this problem...

    Drained tank, replaced clip and away I went...
    The bike did not enjoy the heat on Sunday and the stop start nature of DGR saw temperature gauge hitting 129°c at one stage but made it around (despite the engine randomly cutting out at idle)...

    Fun bike to ride though once you're on the twisties!

  • Lovely! Which model is it? I had the F4 750S very long ago. 2001 i think. It was just sitting there in HR Owen in Chelsea surrounded by Ferraris. I thought there'd be a waiting list but they actually let me have a test ride. I had an attack of insanity and bought it. It's still hard to believe it was me.

  • Can I pose an aesthetic question where I’m literally on the fence .?
    I spent ages finding a green tank with patina to replace the minty but silver one it came with .
    Now , the more green I see the better , hence the single seat .
    Obviously the pillion option goes , but does it look better ?

  • Single seat for me! Looks much more balanced, less heavy visually at the rear. IMO

  • Single seat every day of the week. Reminds me of my old police bike looking like that but an R100. That's a nice colour too.

  • Yeah this. Whilst I can chug along in 4th, there’s just too much chug before any reaction. Im not sitting at 10k, but I ain’t sitting 500 above idle.

    Surprised they advocate peg scraping IAM. What’s your view on it so far?

  • Single. That’s an amazing colour to boot!

  • It’s very good, there’s some course material and theory but after that it’s riding. Being followed by a good rider who stops you for a debrief every so often. Corners, overtakes and general flow has all improved massively.

  • Dual seat for me, looks more finished and the chrome grab-rail looks great. The gap between the rear of the single seat and the rack also looks a bit jarring.
    Also as C_S says with the single seat it looks like an old police bike painted green.
    All imho, ymmv, etc.
