The UpRide is 33cm wide according to the information on the site I purchased it from, leaving me around 50cm available for roof box:

I didn't think you could put a roof rack on a 911, is it a special custom one?

That steering wheel is on my list too, right after the car. Looks lovely.

Gotcha - that is a mega-wide bike holder compared to what we've got, in that case !

No- I think there must have been one engineer in the design team for the 9X6 platform who did some sort of sport that involved a board/bike/skiis/sikilar and also liked cabriolets- both the 986 Boxster and the 996 911 have a Roof Transport System for the soft top models

Definitely a great plan to enjoy your freedom this summer!

It's the Porsche Cup wheel - which they (massively) hiked the price on after I bought it.
I'm also using the off-set mount, which moves the wheel up in relation to the centre of the steering column. It essentially makes the rotation of the wheel follow an ellipse, but you don't notice it in practice, and moving the wheel up worked well for me.
There is a Memo available that's identical, but way cheaper - just doesn't have "Porsche" engraved into one arm of the wheel. If I were buying it today I'd get that one.

Somewhat inconveniently my employer, despite making me redundant, refused to consider releasing me from the non-compete clause in my contract - which gave me a first possible start date of 1st (well, probably 2nd) of September.
That's a shitty move. We don't want you, but we don't want anyone else to have you either! Effectively taking away your means of earning a living, which is probably unenforceable unless the clause is very specific and your looking at roles which directly compete with your old roll.

It is, very probably, unenforceable - but I'd have to go to court to get that decision.
I also have to tell any new employer that to employ me meant potentially going to court (as my ex-employer would go after the new employer as well as me).
It's fair to say that my experience of being exited from the company to whom I had dedicated a decade of my life did quite effectively change my (previously very high) opinion of them.
Anyway, all of this combined meant that I decided to take this as an opportunity to spend a month roaming around Europe in my old nail with the bike on the roof.

Does whatever is in the case really not fit on the back shelf, passenger seat or passenger footwell?

Is there no way to connect the box from the inside straight onto the rack. Looks like a pita that you have to remove the straps everytime you want to open it.
-
• #293
Nope
-
• #294
I am trying to develop a strapping strategy that allows the box to open
-
• #295
what about strap it down strapping the handles at the end to the bars?
-
• #296
That’s exactly what I’m trying at the moment.
-
• #297
Not sure how best to go round the bars tbh.
-
• #298
Straps the length of the case handle to handle, then straps parallel to bars through those?

Am surprised no one is suggesting “buy a cybertruck”.
This is Lfgss and it is Dammit.

Ok, this passes the “rocks the car and doesn’t move”

I had the back converted from two useless rear seats to a luggage storage area as part of the interior refresh a few years ago:
The two luggage bins make use of the seat recesses in the chassis, and are locked using the ignition key.
