• C4 has just informed me refuelling an EV is similar cost per mile to petrol. I'd assumed that charging is dirt cheap

At public chargers, yes it is costly.
Charging at home however is dirt cheap.

  • The price of speed really. I’m really considering chucking the new car in and getting an ev and charging it at sites when I need to go, is there an ev chat?

Intrigued about people’s real life motorway miles and charging off a 13a plug for 8 hours.

My Model Y easily gets 230 miles motorway on a 100% charge at 70mph in the winter, down to 10% so 250+ if you feel like risking 0% charge. MG4 is probably closer to 180 miles motorway. I do 220 mile round trips to Birmingham a minimum of 25 times a year and have never had to top up the charge when leaving home at 100%.

I've charged my old Model 3 on a 13a plug overnight in France a few times - it works fine. It would take nearly 24 hours to charge it from flat but it's basically 3kWh charge rate so 8 hours would be around 33% of your 77kWh battery if you had a Tesla or similar car.

I did a BC coaching course with a guy who had a ID3. He only ever charged it on site from a diesel generator. Not sure about the green credentials.
