  • Don’t worry trees are falling on cars in the Gloucester area as well so it’s not all fun fun fun in cars

  • I'm in Gloucester - best hire a van.

  • How big is the bike @amey? I’m semi local and have a van if you need it collecting a storing for a bit. Also on a mainline to Paddington - so repeat of the same problem

  • ?

  • How good of a deal was this cargo bike?

  • Maybe this is too niche to exist, but are there any route planning apps that let you combine bike and train? For instance it might take me a bus, a train, a bus and a walk to get somewhere in 3 hours, or a cycle, train, cycle to get there in 90 minutes.

Edit: Citymapper has a "Mixed" mode for personal and public transport, might be what I'm looking for although the results aren't totally as I'd imagined. For instance I don't think you can take a bike on the Victoria line..

  • I'm on a German inter city train. Just parked my bike in the storage area. Light years ahead of what we have.
Space for 8 bikes. The ones in the middle even get a view out of their own window.

  • Anyone know how enforced the no bikes on trains from Waterloo before 7 is? Looking at getting a 18:30 train on Friday to Poole but don’t particularly want to be turned away

  • As those faster trains usually have a dedicated bike space without any seating, you should be OK

But no idea if anyone would be guarding the ticket gates..

  • My understanding of the Thameslink rules is that I can take a bike onboard at St Pancras before 10am on a Monday morming, as the train will then be heading away from Central London.

    Can anyone confirm?

  • Crossrail: Unfolded can be on when "Leaving Paddington (towards the west) before 16:00 and after 19:00"

Does it literally only care about Paddington? What if I'm leaving a station further west? Or does it mean any train that has left Paddington? ie. it leave Padders at 1630 and gets to Ealing at 16:40 am I not allowed on it?

  • I think it means any train that has left Paddington in that window, so you're not allowed to get on at Ealing at 16:40...

  • I figured but it's a bit unclear. Unclear enough for a court of law to dismiss, I wonder? :)

  • If I get a return ticket to/from Eastbourne, could I return from Brighton? It kinda looks like it's on the same line.

  • I reckon so if it's on the same line. Last time I got the train from Eastbourne, I had to change at Brighton.

  • That's what I was thinking. Just thought I'd ask in case anyone knew for sure.

Easier/cheaper just buying an Eastbourne return than two singles from different places.

  • The direct train doesn't go via Brighton, but it does go via Lewes (which isn't that far away). So I doubt you could use the ticket to get through the barriers at Brighton. But almost certainly you could talk your way through the barriers at Lewes.

  • All the trains I'm getting on the Southern site go direct via Lewes and don't call at Brighton, so I think you might want to double-check whether you could return from there with an Eastbourne return. (I doubt it.)

  • Ah, snap.

  • Hmm, I guess I'll need to ask the train company, but from what you're saying it doesn't sound like it's doable.

  • I’d expect it to be valid. Most flexible train tickets are valid over a wide range of alternative routes.

Use the Advanced option on the National Rail to route Via Brighton and if it still offers you the same ticket it is valid. Take a printout / screenshot if necessary.

  • This is the paperwork required for two of us with a bike each, for a return journey...

(Yeah we could have cycled it given more time...maybe we will on the way back)
