  • Baby seat has been installed and rides amazingly so far with a short ride around the block. Will test more on Thursday with the little man.

  • Thank you for @hang_on_voltaire for this amazing seat. Hopefully we will have some amazing adventures this spring/summer.

  • What model is this Hoke? And what’s the knee clearance like? I’ve got the Thule Yep Next Mini, it does fit on a Brompton stem but the knee clearance on any bike other than a proper high stack city style bike is uncomfortable. I have fairly long legs but also a long reach. The position is too forward tilted on the S stem if anyone else was thinking of it. I’m wondering about attaching a seat to the luggage block until kid is old enough for a shotgun style seat

  • Bobike mini.

I’m 5ft9 (10 on a good day) and the knee clearance is perfect for me as initially I was thinking i needed to ride man spread like all the other parents but this is perfect for me somehow. Usually I would ride on the tip of the nose but with the child on board it actually forces me to ride correctly and on my seat bones and saddle.

Only downside with this version is the front block is pretty much not in use anymore and I will need to ride with a backpack.

  • Anyone got some black mudguards they want to get rid off?

  • Ive got a black rear blade you can have. Just the blade if you want it.

  • Perfect, where you based?

  • has anyone got a spare front block carrier in north london/central?

  • SE7

I picked up some stickers from you at your work a few weeks ago. I can drop it in with security on my way past tomorrow if you like.

  • Amazing, I’m paternity leave atm but I live around the corner. If you can let me know when your coming pass I can meet you outside the swimming pool across the road.

  • will do. Probably be around 14:00.

DM your mobile and ill give you a buzz.

  • People on here found Bromptons not heavy duty? I've had mine just under a year and the folding pedal snapped off and the chains just snapped as well.

This left a big scratch on my frame when the pedal snapped and I keep my bike in really good condition, Brompton initially just offered some touch up paint and a new pedal but then we're decent and sorted the frame out, with a new pedal and a voucher for the £17 I paid for Condor to slap a generic pedal on there so I could get to work.

They did say that the sprockets and chain need replacing when it was returned to me but I've only had it back less that two weeks and the chains just gone. I've already got the parts and was due to swap out this week but ordered the wrong chain length by mistake.

I've never had another bike chain snap on me, I do cycle 4 days a week, but only about 50 miles per week.

  • Start a claim for defective product?

  • Hmm. Can't comment negatively on the folding pedal from a durability perspective. I used mine for many years and miles, in the most in inclement weather - no issues. Maybe newer ones aren't as well made.

The chain is normally (may differ on some models like T-line) a standard SRAM 7-8 speed chain. Can't remember the exact model, but it's a chain I've used on other bikes too (8-speed) and again, never had problems with it. In fact, I once snapped my cogs from a high-gear start, but the chain was fine!

Did yours snap before the shop replaced it?

  • I once snapped my cogs from a high-gear start

What do you mean by snap? Finding it difficult to envision snapping steel cogs.

  • With Bromptons being so much closer to the ground I have found they absolutely eat through the drivechain. Although using an 8 speed chain they rarely snap and I regularly see ones worn well past 1.0 and they’re still holding on.

  • Absolutely this. So low to the ground they pick up all the crap off the road.

  • The current one I have, bought new in 2016, had a seat post clamp not tight enough, and I also lost three chainring bolts in a month, causing me to taco the ring one ride. All pretty standard stuff if you read through the internet.

  • Unfolded my Brompton and tried to ride off in the highest gear - unbeknownst until I put my foot down. I just pushed through the resistance and heard a wrong noise, and later noticed some horrible gear skipping.

I knew nothing about cycling power, didn't think about the stress on the drivetrain, and knew little about mechanics, so I took it to a random Brompton dealer on my commute. The mechanic was laughing in shock when he saw what I'd done, saying that would require some unbelievable strength. I just thought he was a typical weak cyclist as it didn't seem that big a deal to me.

  • I like the idea of it. It carries with it, the price of a significantly larger footprint.

  • I decided to rent a Brompton to have spin and see how it feels, was planning to keep it for a few days but they fixed the saddle in an extreme forward position making it borderline unrideable. I can see how it could be fun though.
