No idea if it's affected the thread, but he's certainly right that everyone looks essentially the same in a peloton (never mind different makes of helmets or sunglasses), and unless you have intimate knowledge of teams, start numbers, or jersey designs, it's hard to identify anyone. You only have to look at the mileage (in describing legendary rides or panache or whatever) that people still get out of grimaces or other expressions in old cycling photographs to see what's been lost.

Thanks for mentioning the lunch report.
One point made by Phil O'Connor was that helmets and sunglasses are terrible from the photographer's point of view - could this be the reason this thread has been dormant for the past thirteen years?
