He had a rough childhood with elder brothers doing horrible things to him. As an adult you could see he had confidence problems because there was a lot of fake bonhomie with men, trying too hard with friendly remarks which seemed forced because they were said with no charm or humour. I think the bodybuilding, the marriage and joining the military were attempts to be manly. I don't know how the interest in vulnerable little girls might fit in with all that.
Presumably he's having a bad time in prison. I wonder what shape he'll be in mentally when he's released? He can't work in medicine because he's been struck off permanently. Maybe his wife has stuck with him. She's kept his name and is still in the UK. She probably believes his excuse, that he thought the people in the chatroom were adults pretending to be kids. It all sounds like the buildup to a very disturbing TV murder series. I flatshared with the wife for a few months before they were married. One day they went to the RAF church on Fleet Street to get hitched. No guests, no honeymoon. It was explained that it made sense because it entitled him to a housing allowance and it got her a passport so she wouldn't need to renew her student visa. All this time he was cheating on her with the woman who owned the flat, who was also my ex girlfriend. The whole thing makes my skin crawl.
