• are they for all intents and purposes the same?

They are not made for the same intents or purposes 🙂
25mm rim is well above the recommended size from Conti who stick to the ETRTO table and suggest a maximum 19 internal for the 28 tyre, so there's that. You're not going to be using bigger tyres on a SuperSix, so stick to the narrower rim.

  • Ha, knew you'd say that.

It's the new himod which can apparently handle up to 35mm. That being said I can't imagine ever running anything bigger than 30mm tyres on it but then once upon a time I couldn't imagine riding anything wider than 19mm!

The LB WR 40 rims are 25int/32mm ext so 4mm wider internally than the Cannondale wheels which are 21mm... that't the problem is it? The AR series are 21 internal/28 external

Yeah, 25mm internal is pretty spicy for 28mm tyres. I'd run one on the back, but not up front.

34mm measured width according to the manual. A 28C GP5000 on a 21mm rim should be 30mm wide

  • Don't even mention external, it has no bearing on your question. As tester says, choose your range of tire width and use the recommended rim. Later on when you change your mind get the wider one.

  • WR40's handle like a dream with 28c tyres.
    Or 30c.

    Ignore the haters😅

As long as you are getting hooked rims there is no concern.
