    If it was me, I'd be on the lookout for a more contemporary Italian frame in ally or carbon, maybe from the brief era where such things had a 1" head tube if you really want to max out the MGOOF factor. An ally or carbon frame would allow you to delete the mechanical shifting gubbins and add an internal wiring loom a lot more feasibly. (Also, it would be a bit of a shame not to run mechanical on a steel frame; the lovely resonance it adds makes a mechanical shift more satisfying than on a plastic bike or most ally ones.)

    Extra points for using a 1" threadless fork and going full internal like my TCR.
