Think my handlebar problems are solved, thanks for all the offers

Have decided on picking up a sonder camino frameset as cycle to work makes it about £25 a month and I have accumulated wheels, crank, groupset so no need for those.
Do people size up or down on frames? Im 5'10 and had a bike fit 5 years ago.
Based on that I could get a medium or large and the only significant differences I can see being a 70 or 50mm stem and 20mm of spacers.

I’m also 5’10. I had a Camino until the end of last year. I really liked it. I had a large and that was a good fit for me. Though admittedly that was a 2018 model and the geometry may have changed since then.

Thanks that's good info. I think large size and a smaller stem works, I don't want to end up with a 200mm stem or something.
It's a shame they don't have any stores in sensible locations I think Newcastle and Nottingham are easier for me to get to than Kingston

I know everyone loves gear chat so let's get back to my favourite topic - can I run a 46T on my partner's Di2 GRX Bokeh? Do I need a DM Wolftooth to do so? I have a cassette to test just don't have it handy so I'm asking (again probably) in advance.
-
• #30732
If it's 1x almost surely yes, 2x no.
-
• #30733
I have done this without issues on Bokeh with XT Di2 mech, so I assume GRX should work as well.
Edit: No Wolftooth DM needed

2x with the 42T max. xxxx17 RD

• #30735
Cassette or chainring?
-
• #30736
The 1x derailleur clears a 46t fine, but you'll probably have not enough chain wrap to go through all the gears.
Never tried myself, just as far as the 1x derailleur in a double and that didn't work very well. -

Read it again and take a stab.

Good point, thinking about it now, even running the 1x (RD-RX817) RD with a 42T I do have to screw in the B-screw to take up slack when it's in the smaller cogs. The 46T cassette might need so much of that the shifting goes to complete shit.

are there any front racks that can be used on an arkose (fork has no mounting eyelets iirc) ?

I'm 5'11" and my Large works well for me with a 90mm stem.
I wouldn't want to size down if it meant a longer stem.

First part has arrived, can’t decide on force or new red front mech. Big difference in outlay lol

Marvelous. I'll work towards a large and play with stem sizes, I use wide bars so easy enough to go super short on the stem.
I have shortish legs though so may have shit stand over.
Thanks all for the feedback.
Currently running an oversized marin so really do want a correct sized bike this time round

Am I right that the Crux doesn't include an FD mount?
So, I need to spend another £30 just to install an FD?

Anyone got one of these mounts they want rid of?

Force vs Red - if budget isn't a thing...
-
• #30746
My frame set came with one. But full builds not sure 🤷♂️
-
• #30747
It is and it isn’t ~£150 vs ~£400 is a fairly hard pill to swallow. Particularly as they still dont really do a wide Red crank, so if the regular FD doesn’t really work and I need to switch out makes it all the more painful….

• #30748
These sound like some very good reasons to go with Force. I'm guessing (well based on exp) there will be much better availability with Force too.

Yeah I think so. Another day another table.
https://support.specialized.com/crux/en/components-compatibility/drivetrain-brakes#:~:text=The%20Crux%20is%20designed%20for,will%20fit%20with%20minimal%20clearance.I’m guessing wide is only stated in that ring config as that’s the retail offering?
Can a force FD handle 50/37?? This looks to be a yes based on 13tooth gap being the only spec

I understood (compounded by the last chart we looked at) that any FD goes and should be able to handle it. In fact, that Specialized table also alludes to this.
What's baffling is why it says that the WIDE cranks can only support 30/43t for 2x yet non-WIDE has better compatibility. Not sure I've misunderstood something?
Totally. Asides the brakes, it’s pretty incrementally pointless.
