  • This is happening a lot faster than I anticipated. Which brings me joy.

  • Haha, thanks man, me too! It caught up with me quite fast and I just decided to go with it, get stuck in and not over think it

  • Great stuff. Feels like you’re making v quick progress, or at least the thread is - lots of prep/brain work before starting to build the frame of course!

  • Lovely thread, making your own frame to spec is the stuff dreams are made of!

  • Wow thats quick! What are the plans for paint? Some rad fades i hope:)

  • Rapid work and looks great!

What mounts are you going for? You can fit a third bottle cage mount under the downtube but if you’re using a track crankset, the bottle may hit the spider/chainring. I got around this by slightly bending a stainless steel cage by 1-2mm. You could also offset the cage mounts towards the NDS. Just something I came across on my fixed.

  • From memory it was just reducing trail a little, angles are normal 73ish. Will look up frame drawing later.
Lugs were all quite plain. I like the extended head lug, I was originally going to shorten it but I liked it this way once done. The fork crown is hollow to allow wiring, and enforced straight blades - which makes an old fashioned frame format look modern I think - wasn't keen at first but now I like it

  • Excellent use of the lathe for tube mitres!

  • Thanks, it all kind of crept up on me, I knew I wanted to do an endurance fixed but really hadn’t time to thrash out the fine detail.
The guy I’m working with is seriously good with masses of experience so I’m happy to be making it up as we go along, we have much the same tastes so it’s working well

  • Absolutely. I’ve literally been living the dream this week

  • Not quite sure yet, I love that green textured on one that’s on here, can’t remember who’s it was.
(In other words, probably no fadez)

  • Yes it’s all John’s work. I love the no-bullshit elegance and good Engineering sense of using Starret saws at the same OD as all your tubes.
The tubes are held in the toolpost
    Flipping genius

  • Agreed that straight blades give yours a modern look and the high headtube lug looks way more elegant than a mega spacer stack.
I was a bit concerned with how short my HT was looking in the original CAD so we decided to extend upward for exactly this reason

  • This is very useful info, thanks.
I’m using a record carbon ultra-torque which has a pretty teeny Q-factor so this is especially important.
In the end I decided that I’m probably never going to be more than a couple of bottles away from civilisation so I just decided to stick with 2

  • This was as far as I got in 4 days.
Just the clean-up left to do now.
I headed home to take the sabbath off and will head back down on Monday to clean things up a bit and see how things are looking.
