  • Has anyone tried this? Any feedback?

  • Expensive but very interesting - just started working through the diet modification program and certainly feeling better for it

  • Discussed the last few pages of this thread

  • Ah thanks, I had searched but this didnā€™t come up šŸ‘šŸ¼

  • Thanks DJ

Been doing this for over a year.
    Time well spent

Elaborated more in the Wellness thread.

  • Interesting to see these kind of things getting a hammering in the Guardian recently, they also had some subtle and not so subtle articles in defence of ultra processed food. I wonder what their reasoning is.

  • do you have a link to their articles in defence of ultra processed food, please?

this is the one I remember the most because of this:

But ultimately, bread is made from flour, salt, water and yeast. Taste aside, supermarket bread is no worse for you than fancy bread.

where he completely ignores the fact that those are not the only ingredients in supermarket bread.

    And then he goes on:

To do so, we need to, first and foremost, focus on the nutritional content of our food; we should be looking to consume enough protein and fibre, and a little less sugar, salt and saturated fats.

which is the classic food industry approach, just massage the recipe by focusing only
on the macro level of the main components and not where they actually come from
and how they are manufactured vs. just grown foods ingredients.

The main point of the article seems to be a strawman argument about how "healthy" UPF is somehow less scrutinized but as far as I have understood it that's not the case since
the UPF definition covers them very well because pretty much anything that has health benefit claims is included.
He himself whinges on about how the definition is to broad.

  • thanks, I'll take a look

  • At least they are balanced, they now have an article with Tulleken where they mention the problem
    with the one by Yeo.

  • Is this not like going to the GP and saying you're taking vitamin supplements to have them say 'what are you doing that for' - as in the ideal balance is imbalance

  • I have got a Zoe subscription for my other half.

She has just sent off all the tests and looking forward to all the results.

I listened to a Tim Sepectre DOAC and I am pretty convinced this all makes scientific sense.

Not sure how anyone can make claims UPF are not having negative impact on a persons gut.

That and all the connections between the gut, body and brain is as clear as day.

I know science is ever evolving and changing, nonetheless, do we choose to try this change in diet on ourselves or choose ignorance and go on eating UPF?

  • This is quite an interesting spin to the food debate and I wouldn't be surprised if it's driven by the food industry. It's a total win for them, they can appear reasonable by following government guidelines.
They can reformulate products with even cheaper ingredients that might potentially increase appetite and lead to more consumption and they get to make health claims on absolute trash.

It's going to be irresistible for governments that want to look like they are doing something.

  • I'm not so bothered about the actual subscription, I just want to see the data of my blood sugar levels with one of those 24 hour monitor things! I think it would be super interesting.
