I do the towpaths from Leyton to Hertford a couple of times a year, it’s a lovely ride at a leisurely pace.
I wouldn’t be riding on the A10, the Hertford road is probably your best bet if you need a decent pace.

Yup that's the A1010 I was referring to. Looks like I've got to resign myself to it then! Last time I did the towpaths was on 25mm tires on my first long ride, so mayhap going back with 32s might inspire a bit more confidence.
