This is pretty much what I was looking for and I ended up with a three year old Yaris hybrid for just under £10k. They're fine, not particularly exciting to drive or luxurious but bombproof, cheap to run with a few extras like reversing camera and cruise control.

Don't think you can go too wrong with a Golf.
Just sold one last year that had 185k miles on the clock, and whilst the clutch was probably needing a replacement still felt solid and returned really good MPG.
Ten a penny too, parts are cheap etc etc
Advice wanted please- I'm going to have to buy a car in the coming weeks . It'll be for mostly urban driving . Some medium distance trips and the occasional 200 mile motorway journey. I want something cheap to run and insure , comfy, that doesn't feel too basic inside . Compact to mid size . Probably a hatchback.
Have been weighing up either getting something cheap and older , or something around 3 years old, ex fleet / pcp type cars. Would like to keep budget under £10k. Less is better . Though cost over lifetime of ownership is also a factor .
Any recommendations of models I should be looking at? And whether buying something newer is worthwhile over something older . Thanks
