Romesh Ranganathan is the current BBC Barry Shitpease.
Reeves and Mortimer were very clever to go after the Student audence as they are mostly Sheeple. Emperor's New Clothes IMO
Jo Brand, yeah yer fat and......
If any of the above bring you great joy and/or actually make you lauff then brilliantly wonderfully special and ignor me.

At first I thought this thread was shit but actually it's good, now I know who's opinions to ignore

Thing is humour is subjective.
Like audio books.
Marmite, depending on your like or dislike of the reader.
I always remember trying a Dan Brown novel in thick American. Painful.

Probably showing my age here but I find pretty much 99% of all modern 'comedians' woefully unfunny to the point that they just really annoy me.
In the last 10 years or so the only comedian that has actually had me in physical pain due to laughing so hysterically is Stewart Lee.
Seen him live a bunch of times. Maybe he's ruined comedy for me...
Prior to him, I really enjoyed most of the Chris Morris stuff and The Mighty Boosh but little else for many years.
Otherwise, I kind of feel like the Comic Strip crew and Monty Python crew were some of the last bastions of decent Britsh comedy. -

I'd agree Lee does ruin most other comedy but there are a few gems currently. James Acaster is brilliant IMO. I saw Troy Hawke a couple of times last year at the Fringe and he's charming and clever. Henning Wehn was good live too, and Simon Munnery is always worth seeing.

are you sticking Ricky Gervais in here with that?

Most of Peter Kay's stuff is very middling, but Phoenix Nights was absolute genius.

Have loved R&M for years.
And the WILTY bits with Bob Mortimer make me cry with tears. -

Has Daniel Kitson been reading this thread? After commenting yesterday, I received 3 emails from him this morning.
-

Not heard of Kitson.
Reminds me a bit of Garth Meringhi.

I think Rob Beckett is pretty good for a more modern comedian.
Best I ever saw, even above Stewart Lee was Lee Evans. All the better I think that you don't see him on panel shows etc etc.

Jon Richardson's success is a real head scratcher to me. Comes across as smug and self satisfied
-
• #42
He was really funny on 8 out of 10 Cats.
I don't think you can hold negative traits against comedians. Almost all of them would be insufferable irl.

Really?!

thick American.
Aren’t they all?

I’ve never laughed at stand up, from anyone. I think it’s something about someone standing on a stage with the sole intention of showing off how funny they are. Just fucks it for me.
I’m much more likely to find someone funny when they are on 8 out of 10 countdown, taskmaster etc.
-

Yeah Lee Mack is the master of retort.
Impossible to heckle.
That said I don't find him funny.

I saw Bill Bailey live recently and he was not funny at all (for me) yet I have always enjoyed him on the panel shows.

I saw Roy Chubby Brown 48 years ago, he wasn't funny. He is still doing the rounds. Go figure ...
May be I was wrong. -

You are not wrong. There's just no accounting for taste
Maybe you have to be from the North? (Is that racist?) -
