  • The Daccordi is Campag only.
    Non negotiable.

Given that, the chance to get super record electronic on it is too good to pass up.

Honestly, I am stoked about this.

  • Don't you speak mgoof? There must be alternatives to drilling a perfectly built steel frame... the MXL above has very neatly electrical taped the wires along the tubes. That fact you didn't notice is a good incentive to go that route 👍

  • What do other peeps think?

Clean, elegant but permanent and invasive drilling or some form of external adherence?

Have to say that I don't see too many puppy deaths in the former...

  • In the groupset thread there was someone who wired everything internally via their bars.

If you could do that then you could come out of the bottom of the BB shell for the FD and RD. RD cable could go under a chain protector.

Then it'd just be a hole in the fork steerer. And your bars. And your stem. And possibly your BB.

  • It's going to look absolutely shite if you try and drill it. You won't be able to make it clean enough that it looks good without significant damage and repair to the frame.

  • I'm not drilling it. A frame builder and finisher is.

  • just get SRAM wireless.

  • Nope

  • I converted my System Six (the original one) to first gen Di2 using the cable routing stickers that Shimano sell- I think it looked pretty cohesive as you really couldn’t see them. Black carbon frame tubes must have helped I am sure, but you definitely can do a neat job, and it’s much less fucking about than drilling/brazing/blasting/painting.

  • OK, I'll have a chat with the chap who is doing the build.

  • Here’s Spotters thread that has pictures of how I had the bike configured- I can’t find my own thread: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/257027/?offset=0#comment13777981

  • I, for one, welcome mashton's great purchasing decision.

  • DIY drilling on a used frame would be a deal breaker for most buyers.
Consider that if you plan on selling in future.

  • I am become buyer, destroyer of tubes.

  • Although I am veering toward stick ons.

Angus was talking about getting West London Customs to do the work.

I think I will cycle over on the bike in question and chat. Whilst watching the whites of their eyes very carefully.

  • Damn, i never noticed it had di2 !

  • The problem you will have in drilling a hole, is the it needs to be from the diameter of the connector, not of the cable. You could cut the cable and solder after but you have to be careful because the connectors seem to be unique to campagnolo.

  • Yeah it would be a connected sized hole with a rubber grommet, methinks.

  • Conversations will take place in meat space.

  • There’s also no guarantee that the chain stay is clear and that the cable will travel down it. After drilling two big holes in the tube.

  • Magnets tho

  • In the groupset thread there was someone who wired everything internally via their bars.

As that guy, I'd ask, what about the shifter bosses and chainstay cable stop? If you're going to leave those on, what's the point of going the hack on your frame to make it cleaner?

I went hard. No more cable stops. Wiring loom custom and captive to minimise hole size.

I really wouldn't consider this doable on a bike with shifter bosses. If it was ally, you could probably just unscrew them after breaking a glue bond, and there you have a big enough hole to pop a plug through, but it's a bit low down, and there are two of them... Meanders to a hard no. Steel of course will be brazed on.

I guess if you're prepared to have the frame repainted, the sky is the limit.

  • I think downtube shifted electronic gears.

  • Just need to 3D print some button mounts to go nicely on the shifter bosses etc...

    Damn that would be weird

  • That’s a bit half hearted. Pull the shifting gubbins out of the shifters, mount under the BB, use down tube shifters to pull cable that actuates the electronic shifters
